At present, the ground forces are more an 'excuse' to perform air/naval ops than part of an all-encompassing air/sea/land simulation, though I do understand there are intentions to enhance that sometime down the line. I've only played conflict-based scenarios so I don't know to what extent stand-offs can be modelled, but I see no reason why that couldn't be done especially as more features are added. You can always make suggestions in the forum. Is it worth it just now? Now, the game is still very new, there are bugs and finessing yet to be dealt with, but IMHO it's still an enormously deep, challenging and enjoyable game in its present state. It's not cheap, but you are paying for a game crafted and supported by enthusiasts, with all the signs that such improvement will continue for a long time. If you check out the forum you'll see that the devs are very attentive to our reports and requests, and work hard at implementing fixes and improvements. So I'd say yes, it's very much worth it if you can afford the price. And if you can't, start saving now!
