Hi,

I understand this game is about air and naval operations. I was just wondering whether someone could elaborate as to whether ground forces play any role within scenarios. As I understand it they are modeled and can move around but the code used to calculate engagements is pretty rudimentary/abstracted.

In the context of a scenario can air/naval efforts impact on say ground forces taking an objective ie: an airfield/village or whatever or are troop movements essentially scripted in the scenario editor?

Cheers :)

In the scenario I am currently building ground forces play a very large part. I have edited the ground forces in this one to be more robust. As I understand it there will be some changes in the calculations you refer to at some point, but if you keep in mind that the game is an air/naval simulator, the current ground combat CAN still be meaningful enough.

the devs said that they are planning to do a more complex ground combat model further down the road.
I´m personally looking forward to it an cant wait!
But give them time! They are doing so much for the game and us already.

Ground forces, can be looked in 2 ways, as an airman and a navy dude, plenty gun fodder to drop bombs and stuff on, or as a ground lover, there's a fair bit more development required to have the ground force element of the game even with other 2 fighting arms.
Saying that, ground forces can play a significant roll in this game, especially when using the event editor.
100 buck investment, well in my case it is one of the best entertainment buys for me in years.
Great game, great support and great forum. If your got $100 to spare on entertainment, give it ago.

Cheers BASB,

One more question if I may. Do all scenarios end up in conflict or is the game engine able to simulate tense standoff situations which can end peacefully/go either way?

Anyway will most likely take the plunge and buy this game as I have not been disappointment in the other games sold by Matrix at this price point.

At present, the ground forces are more an 'excuse' to perform air/naval ops than part of an all-encompassing air/sea/land simulation, though I do understand there are intentions to enhance that sometime down the line.

I've only played conflict-based scenarios so I don't know to what extent stand-offs can be modelled, but I see no reason why that couldn't be done especially as more features are added. You can always make suggestions in the forum.

Is it worth it just now?

Now, the game is still very new, there are bugs and finessing yet to be dealt with, but IMHO it's still an enormously deep, challenging and enjoyable game in its present state. It's not cheap, but you are paying for a game crafted and supported by enthusiasts, with all the signs that such improvement will continue for a long time. If you check out the forum you'll see that the devs are very attentive to our reports and requests, and work hard at implementing fixes and improvements.

So I'd say yes, it's very much worth it if you can afford the price. And if you can't, start saving now!

Thanks for the input Guanotwozero,

I was hoping that the engine had some sort of tension calculation so that scenarios are not always about attacking everything and that in a standoff one side might back down.

Either way I bought the game and am looking forward to not only playing it in its current form but also seeing its development
