I think anyway.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JHG2SD-9fI&list=PL600436C863A6468B

there is a lot of character build up in the first half.

The second action half is worth the wait.

Best Regards Chuck.

Yep, superb movie. Although "Die Untergang" remains my favourite.

An old movie (1959). Looks interesting

To be honest, I have only seen one German WW2 movie: Stalingrad (from the 90s). And I really liked it.

Not counting Der Untergang, obviously. But this one is more about Hitler (Ganz is amazing).

You know whats funny? If you are from germany, you can't watch that movie on youtube (blocked) :)

But i had to watch "Die Bruecke" at school already (in the 80s), and write an narration(?) about it.

Oops! True. I forgot it. Even better than Stalingrad IMO. Or I simply liked it even more.

For "Das Boot" you need to watch the extended or TV versions, the original cinematic movie was a "bit" cut down.

It probably would have been this (info from Wikipedia)

A movie adaptation of The Forgotten Soldier, written by Michael Frost Beckner and Joel Kassay was in development, but cancelled in July 2009

Otherwise Das Boot

heh, I apologise. I never understood the die/der/das system. If there is any logic to it.

Absolutely brilliant book. My favourite war memoir. All quiet on the western front is a close second. There is a lot of debate about the authenticity, but even if it is partly fictionalised it gives an amazing insight into the horrors of the eastern front.

Great film!
I used to be a keen 'Silent Hunter' player and 'Das Boot' is practically worshiped on the Subsim forum.

Not seen very many German language war films but I would say Downfall must be up there with the very best of them. Especially the now classic scene where Hitler is complaining about the 1-1 = 2-1 Rule .

For a moment I thought that was actually true!

2 nanoseconds later I opened youtube and looked for er... "Hitler Rant 1:1 = 2:1"... To no avail

You sir (or madam) are a liar of the highest degree!!!

This thread went seriously OT, but IMHO you can't just throw out the 1-1 > 2-1 without somehow making it more attractive to attack as the Soviet in 1941 in some other way.

Suggestions: Chance for the Soviet to gain morale or wins even from failed attacks.
Better morale for the Soviet 1941 forces.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JHG2SD-9fI&list=PL600436C863A6468B part one.

'Die Bruecke" (The Bridge)
Filmed 1959. This is the Original one. You will find the other parts on the side panel.

There is a colour version of it too, but it is a remake and - me personally - dont like it. Too modern, not the same.

And - not WW2 but WW1 - another favorite of mine is 'Berge in Flammen'. Filmed in the 20's by Luis Trenker

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMzmSdFLQyU

And 'Steiner - The Iron Cross' but only part 1. Dont like the others....
'Das Boot' , 'Stalingrad' is ok. (though my father said, when he saw the scene with the scene 'anti-tank versus tank' that if they would have done it that way, he would have never been able to come back...)

"Unsere Muetter und Unsere Vaeter". Gives you a climpse.

BUT if you are interested in living during that time, there is an austrian movie called "Der Bockerer" (only part one). Goes from the "Anschluss" till the end of the war.
