Freedom of Speech! It is your choice to read it or ignore it!

Freedom of speech does not apply in a private forum. Nor does it apply in any private business/home.

As you hopefully already know he isn't talking about Constitutional Rights against the government but the often correlated form of open expressions. Though you are correct that neither is protected here.

Well, why even bring up FoS if one already knew that it does not exist in private entities?

I motion we all give Slaak $0.02 so he can set up his very own forum, where he can make all the rules he wants.

I support that, except for the money part. He owes all of us quite a lot of money for all the trolling.

I vote for more Wargames instead of more forums. Plus the stickies of forum thread are getting outrageously out of hand. I say make one sticky in each thread that leads to all sticky's of that thread. Open up more room for discussion not more advertisement.

I find it disturbing that some here want to "define" freedom of speech to fit their own agenda or personal likes/dislikes.

This is EXACTLY like television - if you don't like it turn it off. Or don't pay to subscribe.

It's too easy for a lot of us to turn personal dislike into support for censorship.

Take the good with the bad. Otherwise, welcome to Pravda.

Nate

So you want a free-for-all? I believe that's called YouTube.

Maybe SlaakJaw can go there.

If I want YouTube I'll go there.

This is about people ram-rodding their beliefs/preferences/dislikes down my throat.

If you don't believe in 9/11 theories so be it. Or religion. Or whatever.

It's sad that folks like Boomer78 feel like they have to leave because of intolerant attitudes.

My point was that YouTube is unmoderated. We don't want this place to be unmoderated, and we don't want Slitherine to have to waste time locking up the inevitable ****storms that a religion and politics subforums would bring. Especially if Slaakjaw is in it.

These kind of comments completely undermine any kind of credible objectivity you have in the discussion.

Your "dislike"' let's say, bleeds quickly through, even to the most obtuse.

I respect your opinion, personally. But "sycophantic follower" has never been a personality trait of mine.

I actually believe that reprehensible points-of-view would belong more to the following list of people:

1Politicians
2actors/directors/producers
3union reps
4activist
5community organizers

then a wargamer

I dont need more wargames. World in Flames, Close Combat-COI & Starcraft Broodwars-Armageddon are more than enough to satisfy 50 lifetimes. What we need are more opponents and a an unmoderated R&P forum would work wonders here. Since Aureli-puke & Termi-vomit dont possess the intellect to give me a good fight then I must recruit better victims.

Actually, I think youtube now allows people to turn off comments on videos because it's such a cesspool.

I have always regretted that a wargaming forum doesn't have a place to discuss contemporary conflicts such as the various Gulf Wars, drone warfare, and prospective military endeavors such as boots on the ground in Syria or Iran.

Not to argue about the morality or politics of such actions, but to be able to discuss them as military history, strategy, and tactics.

I think such a forum could escape the personal vitriol that comes from political and theological discussions.

So, I'd vote for such a forum, or forums, based on contemporary military issues and history.

I'd think it would work.

Should leave religion out though and probably conspiracy theories.

Just my two cents worth.

I would vote no.

There are many sites where you can say anything you want about anything.

This does not have to be one of those if I get a vote.

I don't get how you took me as being on the side of a Pro-R&P forum. I basically said it'd just be a huge honeypot for people to out themselves as regressive and reactionary. It really shouldn't matter to me whether my opponent thinks the recent Cola-Cola advertisement was a good idea, so long as he passes back PBEM turns in good order.

I dislike him, sure. However, I dislike exploding forums more. And again, "freedom of speech" doesn't exist here. We have no privileges that Slitherine doesn't want to give us.

And BTW, we've SEEN what happens when people run amok here. There was a forum member who called himself "Doggie" once. An obnoxious little individual with a coterie of fanbois who came in here once in a while and yelled about "freedom of speech" whilst spewing trolling garbage about religion and politics. It made the forums worse for EVERYBODY. Not again.

Yes! Doggie....that is the one. Ravinhood was another that could melt down a thread.

I have no problems with freedom of speech, but agree, no place for it here. This is Matrix/Slitherine's forum. There are many places on the net Slaak can go and post about religion and politics.

Why? because they are a private entity. That's why. They *own* the forums.

Can you show me where in the Steam End Users License Agreement it talks about forums? Especially as EULAs are for software. http://www.steampowered.com/eula_ut3/

Now if you mean this set of rules: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=651173 You'll see a list of what gets you banned if you keep doing it.

Actually Slaak has got his own forum. Google *Slaak forum*

This is what he has to "offer". This is what you would see here. Freedom of speech at its best

Looks like Israel is an obsession. Looks like this kind of "freedom of speech" might earn you a BAN in Germany (or a bad, suspect reputation). That would be an intelligent move from a company which sells products...
