I can't seem to do normal crash reports. I get a message with the bug report and everything, but it tells me I don't have an associated email program. But I do - I went to the trouble of hooking up Windows 8's default Mail application to my mail. I've also tried switching it to go through the Mac mail (a Parallels feature). Same result either way. The image shows what it looks like.

So really just two questions:
(1) Anyone with Mac/Parallels out there who can coach me through the finer points?
(2) What technology is being used to do the emailing? mailto protocol? Windows API call? Something else?

Roger

Not sure what the problem is although I suspect it is due to your MAC pretending to be a PC, but if worst comes to worst, the bug report will be (I hope) in the World in Flames folder in a file named "bugreport.txt". Only one is kept at a time, the most recent overwrites the last.

You can attach it manually to an email to: madexcept@matrixgames.com

This is because you do not have a SMTP mail client installed.

You can resolve this by installing several public and private party mail programs. Outlook is the most popular email program out there, and does work with the reporting system.

Free alternatives include Mozilla Thunderbird, and many others. You do not even have to setup the account to receive mail. Sending is the only important part of setup.

Mail setup is often in guides you can easily google up, such as "how to use Outlook and Gmail".

If you have never setup an account before, avoid POP, use the IMAP or other protocol when possible.

Good luck!

Well... Windows 8.1 comes with something called Mail, which I hooked up to my email account and sent a test message from. I'll double check that, but shouldn't that do the trick? I also messed with the referenced settings, and it looked fine.

Yep it probably will work fine, you can test by clicking any weblink that has a URL "mail-to:user@domain.com"

If a new mail composition window pop's up, you are correctly configured most likely.

You can enter the mailto in your browser actually. Each time, I'm prompted to allow the program access, but I don't get that with MWiF - it just errors out. I tried it connecting to both Parallels (and so to my mac mail) and to the mail program with Windows 8.1.

What is the expected behavior? Mail launches with an email you can edit and then have to send? Or is it more automatic than that?

Exactly right.

On my computer Outlook opens up, and then opens a new mail that is destined to: madexcept@matrixgames.com

It automatically attaches a screenshot and the bugreport file.

I think you can actually save the bug report and mail it manually.

The auto-magic is nice though.
