The Dragon transcription software people asked to talk to doctors who were using their software. The site manager sent them down to me. I think she figured I would gripe and moan instead of being polite. Normally this would be true but they sent a team, one guy, who was obviously the honcho, but who looked like Putin after spending 25 years at Sochi lying in a beach chair........ and a seriously hot Dragon Lady.

The Dragon Lady was along, I suspect, to break the ice and prevent moaning and complaining. It worked. I would ask her a question and the guy would answer.

You know, even when you KNOW you are bing worked, it is almost impossible to resist. It's quite pitiful really.

Would you rather have received that letter from Planned Parenthood?

Nope.

Planned Parenthood never sends consultation notes, especially to a building named after a saint. I think I can guess why they don't.

Also, I know the grandmother, who is now the primary caregiver of the 18 month old. She would never allow that to happen even though I can see the fatigue on her face every time she comes in. The 17 year old is quite happy to be a mother and very likely this is her desired outcome, but she would be completely overwhelmed without the grandmother's support.

Never met the father. I would lay odds he is a "toe rag", as Admiral Lord SPrior might say.

It seems Admirar Rord Fabertong is either assembling the new 1/6th scale 25 Lbr gun he got for his birthday or he has been captured by the Saxons or the Angles or the Vikings again.

So, I was thinking this morning, what would the weight of the projectile be for a 1/6th scale 25 Lbr gun, if the geometries and material densities were unchanged?

Easy...25 / 6. right?

We all know the weight of a shell is proportional to the square root of the radius of the hypotenuse multiplied by the number of spanners in a bag.

A 1/16 model needs a LOT less spanners than the real thing.

So what do you think is going on with the turn? Have the Vikings been active again or did it just stop raining so the whole isrand is outside in the midday sun?

If your REALLY want to know...

About 2 ounces.

While there will be some variation due to exact geometry, you can just multiply the original weight by the cube of the reduction/magnification factor. In this case, 25#/216 = .12#. That's about 1/8#, or 2 ounces.

No, they aren't round, but both the radius and length of the shell would be reduced by a factor of 6 so a cylindrical shell would also vary with an inverse cube. They are usually cylindrical with a taper at the end.

Seems like one could even approximate the taper as a series of short cylinders stacked together like coins.

Surprise?

We have so many ships transiting the Northern Pacific you have to believe somebody has broken radio silence. Plus, JJ will likely have seen Shemya build up to level 5 and Adak to a level 6 port, given that we announced it in the Los Angeles Times and on every radio sation North of Whitehorse. No enemy subs spotted yet. Our subs in the Sea of Okhotsk seem not to be geting reconned heavily.

One of the target bases has been built up to level 2. That's a good thing as long as it hasn't been reinforced.

We haven't seen Shokaku and the CVBL in a bit...or Kirishima. Makes you wonder if they are waiting for us.

Maybe we should ask Alfred.

We were both wrong; not even if the projectiles were round. A round object radius=1 has volume ~4.189, a round object radius=6 has volume 904. 904^1/3 (cube root) = 9.669.

I they were square, 2x2x2 would have a volume of 8. 12x12x12 would have a volume of 1728. 1728^1/3 (cube root) = 12.

Or rectangles, 2x2x10 would have a volume of 40. 12x12x60 would have a volume of 8640. 8640^1/3 (cube root) = 20.520.

Maybe cube root is an approximation that somebody worked out for 1/6th scale for that actual shape of projcetile?

Good analysis. A cylinder of radius 1 and length 5, which is a close approxmation, would have a volume of Pi*r^^2*L = 15.7 and one six x the size would be 3391.2....which is a ratio of exactly 216 ....which is 6 cubed.

This is exactly the answer CaptDave provided and he even stipulated it was an approximation.
I say he earned himself a brand new Ventura GR V with the snazzy paint scheme.

Pharmacy instructions have been simplified to 3rd grade levels and are no longer even full sentences....more like steam of consciousness notions.

"Chew and swallow" as if the average patient would chew the pill and keep it in their cheek pouch. Today, I picked up a medicine (no, it wasn't Cialis) that said "Swallow whole". That's all it said.

So I asked the clerk

Me: Do I swallow the whole bottle?

Nice Asian clerk: These instructions.

Me: Right, but my question is what do I swallow whole? The bottle or just one pill?

Nice Asian clerk: <several seconds of processing information then her eyes grow wide...well, wider> Oh, no sir! Just one pill at time!

Me: Oh, thank you. You've been very healpful!
