1 CP placed in Cape Town

France
1 FTR2

USA

3 CA

No air removed.

----

CW will give 1 BP, 1 oil and 1 resource to France. (1 turn)

Germany give 1 BP and 1 oil to Italy. (1 turn)

----

Axis rolls 8 for the initiative and Allies roll 9. But since Axis had +2 on the die roll they win the initiative. Axis decide to go first.

The weather roll is a 1 and the weather is fine everywhere. Axis side is happy and the Allied side use a lot of foul language.

At once I begin to look at the map examining the Netherlands and Belgium area and looking at the stacks and almost at once I realize that I forgot to do something with Germany the last turn that I had counted on that I had. The joy of nice weather and going first has evaporated and some cursing occurred. I am an idiot and a fool.

Oh well. Things are not all that bad and I made worse mistakes.

Orm please let us know if the giving of the resources by the CW and Germans works okay.

Germany DOW Netherlands. US reaction is a mild note and the US public are not at all concerned about what happens in Europe.

Japan grumbles that it would have been better if Netherlands had remained neutral. Italy sighs and complains that declaring war on Netherlands makes the submarine war much tougher.

Netherlands aligns to CW. The TRS and CPs are placed in the colonies. The other units are placed in Netherlands.

Germany and Japan selects a land impulse. Italy picks naval.

After much consideration Germany decide to port strike Rotterdam where the Dutch navy is located. I am still not sure if it would have been better to do one more air rebase later on instead of the port strike. The result of the port strike is one cruiser bottomed and another cruiser damaged.

----

Last turn I had planned to rail the 14th SS division to a location where it would have been available for invasions from the North Sea but I forgot to actually do it. So now I had no division available to invade in Rotterdam as I would have liked to do. So with the invasion plan scrapped I begun to look at declaring war on Belgium and leaving Netherlands neutral for now. But it turns out that I had made mistakes when moving the units, and placing the reinforcements, on the Belgian border as well. Despite this I considered bypasssing Netherlands by just declaring war on Belgium but I chickened out. So I decide to invade Netherlands at once since I do not like to delay any longer. This means that the Allies can occupy Rotterdam later on if they so please.

No naval air.

Italy sends two submarine squadrons to the Atlantic in search for French convoys. A CL transport 1st Inf division to Olbia, Sardinia. Italy sail with Conte Di Cavour escorted by two CA and one CL to the Western Mediterranean.

Italy fail to find with the two submarines but find with the surface fleet and destroy 2 French CPs.

Japan ground strike the Chinese in the Mufu mountains

Never, ever let this happen folks, it is disaster, unless the german panzer rolls high or the attack is a blitz, then it is win.

While I am not fond of Allies in Rotterdam I am not sure I would classify it as a disaster.

And since Rotterdam is a city I would avoid using panzers if I attack it and I would be happily surprised if the Allies called a blitz when, or if, I attack it.

One of the Chinese units was disorganized by the ground strike. Not as good as I had hoped but good enough for me to launch an assault on the mountain hex.

Japan rail one Garr from Manchuria to China to help keeping partisans away. Germany rail three units from Poland to the west front.

Japan continues to move north from Canton along the railway towards Hengyang. In the process they put the 1st Chinese Army out of supply. Germany moves several oil depended units from Poland towards the west front. Germany advance into Netherlands and prepare to assault Amsterdam.

The attack odds on Amsterdam is 34:4 and the attacker is 6 points shy of ten to one in odds and a automatic attack. Hence Germany fly a 3 strength BF-110 as a bomber to support the attack. Since Netherlands is surprised the 3 points in bombing are doubled to 6 and thereby making Germany happy with the attack.

Germany automatically wins the battle for Amsterdam and advance into the city.

Japan grumbles that it would be nice to roll higher than 5 when attacking. No Japanese losses but so many units disorganized hurts.

Germany rebase 3 air units towards the west front.

Japan reorganize 3 units in central China.

Axis impulse ends and it is time for the Allies first impulse of the turn. CW considers redirecting part of BEF to Rotterdam. This would help defend the north flank of Belgium and is usually annoying for Germany. Troops sent to Rotterdam depends on sea supply through the North sea and has nowhere to retreat but CW should be able to keep the supply route open with the use of a TRS.

USSR demands Bessarabia and after some pondering Germany decides to allow the claim. With fine weather the risk is to great that the few Rumanian defenders get overrun before German support can arrive. The Ploesti oil is to important to gamble with.

CW, USA and USSR selects a combined impulse. France picks naval. China selects, as always, a land impulse.

As CW I prefer to begin a new turn with a naval impulse but I decide to put troops into Rotterdam and I do not like to do so during a naval impulse since that would leave used transports in Rotterdam and I will not risk getting them overrun. Better to have the TRS at sea.

No Port Strikes. No naval air.

CW sail with Home Fleet to the 3 box in the North Sea along with 2 transporters and the reserve army. CW also sends a CP to the 0 box in the North Sea as a backup supply route to Rotterdam. The TRS send to the North Sea will be keeping the sea supply for the moment and they are harder for Germany to abort from the area.

France sail with Dunkerque and Strasbourg, escorted by 5 heavy cruisers, to the Western Mediterranean but due to the enemy presence in the area the fleet advance cautiously before reaching their patrol area in the 3 box. Now those pesky Italians will get what they deserve! France sends their TRS halfway towards Senegal. France sends out a couple of convoy escorts for next turn. France also send a submarine squadron to the Italian coast.

US moves a TRS to the West Coast and load a long range naval bomber.

France search for the German convoy in the Baltic sea and Germany grumbles and sends out a FTR2 to escort the convoy. But the search rolls fail. France then search in the Italian coast sea area. Italy sends out a FTR2 as a convoy escort. But so far the search rolls are way to high to find anything at all. France now search in the West Med and here Italy finds the French Fleet but Italy gains 5 surprise points to use in the sea battle.

Italy once more manage to convert a damage result to a abort result.

I missed taking a picture of where France once again rolls miserably on the defense rolls and a second French CA is destroyed. After the naval combat is over France remains in the sea area with 3 ships. But judging by the losses Italy won this battle.

No Port Strikes. No ground strikes.

USSR begins to move their army away from Bessarabia.

China reorganize their defense. 1st Cavalry Corps move to the hex south of Changsa to get the 1st Army, that was cut off, into supply. The 1st Army then retreats one hex and stack with the cavalry. The Japanese infiltration from south is annoying but they have to few units on that front to be truly dangerous.

No DOWs. Germany allows the Bulgarian and Hungarian claims on Rumania.

Japan selects a combined impulse. Germany and Italy go with land impulses.

No Port Strikes. No naval air.

Japan sends three TRS to China Sea loaded with three land units.

Japan strat bombs Chunking for no effect at all.

Germany ground strikes Rotterdam with a LND2 (Stuka). Both CW and Germany intercepts with a FTR2 so a dogfight commence in the skies above Rotterdam. The CW aircraft unfortunately proves to be somewhat obsolete against the newer German fighters.

No other ground strikes.

Germany rails two units from Poland to the west front and one corps to Genoa.

Italy move a Terr to the French minor port Sousse in Tunisia. Japan debarks two MIL into Canton.

No land attacks since I didn't like the odds even with positive modifiers. Not having enough loss units also had something to do with this.

Germany rebase 2 more aircraft to the west front. Japan rebase two aircraft from Japan to China.

Germany reorganize the 1st Engineer division with the Ju 52. Rundstedt (HQA) reorganize one FTR2 and one LND2.

No declarations of war.

CW selects a naval impulse. France and China picked a land impulse. CW wanted to take a land impulse as well in order to attempt to reorganize one of the land units in Rotterdam but the need to move the Royal Navy was greater since this might be the last Allied impulse of the turn. Besides, it is not guaranteed that the air transport would have succeeded in reorganizing a unit and no TRS was available for reorganization.

No Port Strikes. No naval air.

CW sends a TRS with Wavell (HQA) from Egypt to Bay of Biscay. CW also move out more CPs because of the increased demand on convoys to France. A lot of convoy escorts also leave different ports. CW also sends a TRS to the North Sea that loads a 7-4 Mot.

USA sends a long range naval bomber to Hawaii.

CW strat bombs Hamburg for no effect at all.

CW elects to ground strike the two German stacks next to Rotterdam. Mostly to annoy Germany. The bombers are unescorted so they will be at a great disadvantage if they are intercepted. But if Germany intercepts then CW will have a fighter advantage over Rotterdam during the next German impulse. And if Germany does not intercept then at least some of the units in the stacks should become disorganized and that might cause some trouble if Germany decide to attack Rotterdam.

Germany decides to intercept the better bomber rather than risk being flipped on the ground. But the air battle is a disappointment to Germany as the Blenheim bombers fire is to accurate and shot down the German fighters. Not a good day for Luftwaffe.

Germany fires with the AA against the LND2 but the result was only one point reduced from the bombing for no practical effect at all.

CW ground strike is a complete failure and no German unit was hit.

USSR rail a unit to Baku.

France, China, and USSR just make minor adjustments of their units.

No reorganization.

And for no other reason than that I like how the counters look I post a picture of the alps.

New weather is a 8 (6+2) which means winter continues.

No declarations of war.

All Axis nations pick a land impulse.

No Port Strikes. No naval air.

Italy strat bomb Lyons for no effect at all.

No ground strikes.

Germany rails two more units from Poland to the West Front. Germany also rail one corps to La Spezia.

I am considering attacking Rotterdam despite the snowy weather. One question is if I should bring in the best units for the attack or bring in the units I rather lose. The engineers, for example, would help to get better odds but if I use them then I will surely lose 'em.

It is late in the turn so Japan declares two attacks.
