As a player do you use this option or not?

Is there any benefit to not using it.

I don't use it. I prefer the certainty of manual rally, including not forgetting to do other things in the rally phase.

Thanks for the replies. I thought it probably best to manually rally but I wondered what others thought.

Using auto rally doesn't auto assign support weapons. It still asks you if you want to assign them or pack them up/unpack them.

The only decison tsken out of your hands i think is where to use the Russian For the Motherland bonus.

When using auto I've had units pick up support weapons on their own (I think you get some notification text), but with my short attention span I've forgotten to do various other things during this phase so manual it is.

Manual: if you leave it on auto you can't deploy/pack up MG42, it also helps me learn the system- if
I decide to get the board game.

I don't think this is correct. I've been playing it on auto and it asks me whether i want to pick up unmanned weapons in a hex or pack up the MG42.

Strange, I've been playing on auto and don't recall getting any such messages, although before the rally phase ends I do have an opportunity to pick up and swap SW.

I started playing with automatic on but switched to manual. Probably because it gives me a feeling of better control on what is going on.

I prefer manual myself, but in the latter stages of testing defaulted to auto because it was a bit quicker. 76mm... if you haven't received those messages you might not have a gun you can pack or support weapon that you can grab. Only the MG42 can flip from bi to tripod (at least in this game). The American's .30 Cal also has a disassembled and tripod version.
