Did I see that right Germany attacked Denmark and Denmark became a USA protectorate now Germany is at war with the USA in 1938. How did Denmark become pro USA ?

If Denmark got diplomatically influenced by USA during its turn, it is quite possible for Denmark to have had USA as best friend. The starting values don´t disallow this....

Personally, if Germany gets USA involved this early, i think it is a mistake on behalf of the German player. Not having the US locked up in a constant attempt to break isolationism, is imho a waste of PP.

EDIT:
I actually have toyed with the idea to see if USA could influence a few countries, and thus prevent wars from happening in Europe, or face USA activation. I was looking at Finland for this, but Denmark will do just as well i guess :) Of course this might just be a misclick, the declare minor war card is sometimes alittle sluggish on my PC, and i can if i am not careful do a double click, resulting in a DOW on Denmark.

It could well be the case Antonio USA has a MO of influencing Denmark, he has done the same thing in our other game were he is also playing USA. Bombur may be kicking himself for not checking the political status of Denmark. Or he may be happy with the opportunity to humiliate the USA early in the game. One thing is certain the S**T has hit the fan I just hope none of it makes its way around the world to Japan.

Interesting "what if...?" situation with USA being on war in 1938.

Turn done and uploaded.

Bye!

As playing Germany it is my intention to get control over Denmark. From another game I knew that Antonio had influenced Denmark hoping a DoW on Denmark would bring USA to war early. Thought he would not do that again, as last time it had not worked (on early DoW on Denmark). So I sent the DoW but did not check, which nation was favoured by Denmark.

So it was an accident.

Lets see what will happen now. Interesting situation.

Bombur played the Chinese turn yesterday 20/04 so I would say definitely in. He was never out just took longer than usual to play his turns.

Turn4-Japan at dropbox.

As Italy was shown as nation having most influence on Albania, I thought Italy could declare war. But it made Germany become protector of Albania. So Italy did not invade. Axis nations will sign peace again.

Yeah, if you declare war against a country you are best friends with, the 2nd best friend steps up. In General it is a bad idea that you declare against a country you are best friends with, as it sort of can ruin the mechanics of the game... not sure what i can do about it, actually.

If you control Italy and Germany just carry out the Invasion and sign peace between Italy and Germany.

I do that when I have the Soviets attack Poland after Germany. They just sign peace with France and Britain.

OK anyone care to explain why the United States Navy is hugging the Japanese coastline in 1938 at least the IJN doesn't have to spend a yen to find the US fleet

usa were concerned about the china japan war

maybe they want to provoke a casus belli with japan to avoid a pearl harbor surprise

the pearl harbor attack by japanese forces was a hypothesis in us plans since '30

Don't worry the US can not declare war on you so let him waste his oil sailing around helplessly from your coast.

Actually, since Germany declared war on Denmark, that was best friend of the United States, he can declare war. He has been woken from Isolationism...

Yet he can not attack minors? What kind of logic is that?

The Japanese would have loved to have sunk the US carriers but fortunately they were out at sea on the fateful day. Now those carriers are sitting next to Tokyo in range of not just my Carrier Fleet but all my land based air force.

The reason they cannot attack minors has been discussed before. They are a democracy, and thus have to play nicely. In older version of GD 1938, the USA could only attack countries that were at war with other majors. This was changed, and it made programming alot simpler. But at the same time it opened up a few possibilities, like the US declaring war on countries that technically are not at war. The United States could even declare war against France, if they wanted. Instead the victory options are meant to guide a countries actions, and have in some ways prevented attacks like the one i just mentioned. As for the United States declaring war on Japan. That is actually realistic in my book. United States was never happy about Japanese expansion in China, and embargoed them etc. I therefor find it plausible that they can attack Japan at this date, under these circumstances. Besides, what minors would the United States want to declare war against?
