I installed v1.01 and it runs fine, but any update to 1.02 or the 1.03 release candidate 4 leads to an immediate crash on launch.

I've installed the prereqs from the folders in the download, still the same problem...
Try to run from the "Play" initial screen, I just get a message that Command has stopped working. If I try to run from the Command.exe, I get the attached screen. Tried as administartor and in win xp3 compatibility mode same results.

Real sorry that is happening. Couple of things you could try to start.

Delete your command.ini file . The file will be rewritten when you start command again but you'll have to reset any saved game options.

If you haven't already try reinstalling the prerequisites from the folder instead of relying on the installer. Reboot after.

If installed in the default location prereqs are here:

C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\PreRequisites

C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\PreRequisites\directx_mar2009_redist

Let me know how it goes.

Tried all that Mike, still the same result.
All video drivers are up to date, and win 7 64 bit is also fully up to date with windows update. No issues with any other programs...

Running at 1900x1600, dual monitors, NVIDIA 560
Had WM player installed when this started, uninstalled it. I'll try reinstalling!

Can you please try something else.

Open the Command.ini file, located on the main Command folder (e.g. C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations). It's a text file so you can open it with Notepad etc.

Make sure the following preferences are set thus:

GameSounds = False
GameMusic = False

Then save and try to run it again.

That did it Mike. The game started without a crash.
Haven't had time to play it yet, but I'll re-enable the audio within the game and report back.
Thanks!

It implies that sound drivers are somehow incompatible with game. Have seen that happen in few games, e.g. War in the Pacific - AE, for some people. That sort of thing is annoying.

We added more elegant error-trapping code for this in Build 506.
