ORIGINAL: IdahoNYer OK, in my game against the AI, I figured I'd probe the Japanese Central Pacific Island defenses with some "Marine Raider" operations. Loaded some Marine Parachutists and supply on the Narwhal and Nautilus and landed the raiding party on Baker Is - with the intent to take them off after about a week max - really wanted to see if and how the AI would react. Well, I try to pull them out and I can't figure out how to load them back on the subs. The strat mode option is grayed out and can't load back in combat mode. Any ideas, or are they doomed to die on the vine (or get an APD to pull em off?) All from recent memory . . . In the game Marine Raiders and Marine Parachutists are different animals. Only LCUs with the -p (parachutist) tag in the unit list can move on SSTs in Combat. Some units, like Kanga Force, say they're cdo/para (commando/para), but they aren't parachutists. Marine Raider units can move on APDs. They can move on SSTs in Move mode. Kanga Force can move in Move mode. To attack they have to unload in Move, you convert to Combat, then attack next turn. So they better know what they're landing into. Parachutists unload in Combat, but I believe attack in Shock, same as if they had air-dropped. Check that to be sure. I know that when Kanga loads in Move on an SST it also loads a little supply alongside. I have had occasional trouble on dot bases with re-loading them while there are still supplies to unload. Doesn't happen every time, but it has happened twice I think in one game of mine in about 20 landings. Play with the SSTs. They're fun, flexible, and in a TF together can land about 210 Marines at once, enough to take down some smaller islands with just aviation units. The Japanese can't see them coming, and in my experience they don't even leave a text line in the Combat Events.txt file. The first appearance is the attack. They don't record in the combat report as an Amphibious landing either. I guess because they aren't. They're an SST landing. SST stands for Super Secret Tricksy. They make me keep my eyes open, for sure. Strat map and filter for enemy LCUs . Yeah, because Japan had Keyholes. Rice-powered no doubt.
