You're kidding, right? There are no military aircraft that served in the Pacific theatre during World War II that this forum doesn't know.

P61A-1-NO Black Widow of 419th Night Fighter Squadron.

Serial 42-5507

The wiki pic says 419th NF Sqn but Joe Baugher's site says 418th Sqn, lost in South Pacific Apr 10, 1945 MACR 13784

Never post a pic from the wikipedia front page.

More specifically it's an early production P-61A. The P-61 used the same top turret mechanism as the B-29 and there was a shortage of turrets. Northrop got a handful of them which went into the early P-61 production, but then no more were available, so most P-61A and the early Bs had no top turret. It's obviously an A because all Bs were painted gloss black and this one is OD.

I don't remember the numbers but there were only something like 50 P-61A built with turrets.

The turret initially gave the engineers fits too. The shape caused horrible buffeting when rotated. The Northrop engineers went through a large number of new shapes before hitting on the teardrop shape on the production Black Widow. Until the problem was resolved a lot of early Black Widows had their turret motors disconnected and the turret fixed straight forward.

Hold on Termy. It says right in the Wiki that they were used in the Pacific and China during WW2

From the markings I'd say it was a British plane. Seeing how the other plane is a Fokker DR1 I'm guessing probably of WW1 vintage. Maybe a Sopwith Pup?

Gary, I'll give you the points but baby camels are not called pups, they're called calves.

Ahhhh, I do remember that situation.

Spotted him too late. Tried some flat scissors to shake him, but the bastard wouldn´t let go. Damn Dr.I, much lower wing load than my old Sopwith Doghouse. Stalled 2 times. Went into a dive, but he noticed immediately. Stupid decision. Rest is history. Am lucky I am here to tell the story.

Panzerfausts on a Storch?

No madder than the dedicated "Bicycle Tank Destroyer battalion" the Hitler Youth tried in 1945

No Storch, that one. Low-winged monoplane, not high-winged.

It's a Bücker 181C-3.

Beaufort it is! Thought the head on view would make it tricky. Here she is from the side.

Isn't that a Faerey Firefly or some such thing? A RN recon plane?

Sorry, I didn't read Terminus' answer.

Looks like a Panzerfaust hanging from the wing, though.

It is. The Bü 181C3 was a "tankbuster" variant with four Panzerfausts mounted on the wings.
