I picked up War in the East during the sale and I worked through the operation boot camp pdf. However, every turn or two the game will crash. It happens frequently when I attempt to save the game, or during the end turn calculations or AI turn.

Not exactly sure why it continually crashes, and any help would be great.

Need more input, as in: system specs, O/S, video driver, ram... see if it's related to the video/flah driver and disable the intro with a trick: rename the video folder to -video, as well as start the game
in admin mode.

I was looking around the forum and I renamed the sound folder to nosound. I then played for 15 or so turns, saving every turn, with no crashes.

Could something to do with the games sound be causing this?

Game uses plain .wav files, probably a codec issue. Please try the tool below to detect and fix/remove broken codecs:

I used the tool and one codec was broken and removed, however the problem persists. I still can not play for more than two or three turns with sound in the game.

Hello Cresilia,

Unfortunately Codec issues are often a complex issue. I can suggest some fixes which may help, but they are often fairly in-depth. As has been suggested you can scan for codecs and fix broken ones, or remove the guilty codecs entirely and reinstall them. You can also re-encode the sound files, so the codecs will then not be an issue. If you wish to try any of these fixes, please ask and I will try to explain how you can go about fixing the issue.

Kind Regards

Joe

for me as a ex pc msce of 20 years exp, i would do a more simple approach, if you're having any issues with you pc, and this is one of just another one, then for me a reinstall of windows fixes 99.9% of everything except hardware faults, but at least it would rule software out and then you would have another direction to look at.

first i check for windows errors with system file checker, its built into windows.
run a system cleaner like ccleaner or any that look for junk and internet leftover files etc
run windows update and make sure everything is installed.
reinstall dx and net and anything else game related.
try mega codec packs for every codec there is, in 32 or 64 bit version depending on your o/s etc
check all hardware drivers are the latest.
then scan for virus etc with a good scanner and a passive one, eg an exe or online one.
then scan for malware, run a registry scanner and fix any errors, defrag my drives on a reboot and scan for surface errors etc.

after all this if it is still playing up, backup and wipe it and reinstall windows from scratch :)

Thanks for your reply,

What would be the best way to go about fixing broken codecs?
