Long-term lurker of the WitP AE forums who has decided to take the plunge into playing the game. Does anyone have any recommended spreadsheets or set-up files to get the ball rolling? I figured that I would start with an AI game and then to PvP.

Welcome!

I suggest you play Allies against the AI first. You won't feel bad about making mistakes for the first year or so, and you get plenty of things to replace the stuff that you break.

Give Sardaukar's AAR a read, he provides some excellent advice, as well as reasoning behind various moves. Having Allied strategy explained in simple terms as well as some nifty tricks- http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2564541
