For anyone out there who at sometime wished they had a "Max Points" button when buying troops for a generic campaign, I have a neat little tidbit I have been using (someone asked me to share this on the foirum - so here it is):
Start the Campaign (remember this only works for the generic campaign)
When you set the flags for your forces and the enemy, set the AI to use Spanish Republicans
Buy as many formations of cheap units that have 8 or more slots (you are usually capped at 25 total formations).
Now, when playing the first battle you will quickly come to realize that there is no one to fight... ya see, the Spanish Republicans dont show up for any battles after Sep 1st 1939. So when you are done, all your units will improve their experience and you can start replacing the useless troops you originally purchased with what you want.
Personally I favor 3 formations of Artillery (6 SPAs, 1 Ammo Truck and 1 FO Vehicle... all in the same formation of 8 units), 3 formations of Anti-Tank (usually SP like Wolverine or Marders), 3 formations of Infantry Support (usually high calibur HTs, trucks, or SPs like the M155s, or Wespe/Hummels), 3 formations of Anti-Aircraft (usually HT or Trucks with decent AA guns), and 3 companies of: 1 formation of Tanks (whatever the best tank available is - 8 per formation), 3 formations of Mech Infantry (3 Squads, 1 MG and HTs) 1 formation of Anti Tank support troops (2 HTs and 6 AT Squads like bazookas or Panzerschreks).
Keep playing against the Spanish until you get everything you want - by the third scenario you should have a TON of points.
Remember to keep checking the replacement list - newer units become available as the scenarios are played and be sure to set your start date to about 6 months prior to when you want the actual campaign to begin - this allows you time to buy everything... you dont want to engage the Ai with only trucks and wagons ;)
When in a delay or defend scenario against the Spanish, you need only start your turn (forget about setting up) and end your turn (without having moved a thing - it automatically ends the game with a decisive victory for you).
When in any other scenario make sure and buy a platoon of Armored cars and compliment them with Scouts or Patrols... these are useful when VPs are in a building.
Good hunting!
Bob
