I want to first congratulate the team here on finishing Universe. I'm sure they've put in a lot of work to get this done. I'm especially happy to see the game on Steam as I'm sure that will bring in a lot more revenue and players.

However, I'll be honest. Most things that I've wanted to mod in Distant Worlds are still not modable.

I probably should have listed these months ago but life got in the way

Anyways, I will list the things here in the hopes that some of them will actually be included in future patches.

1) Component costs and maintenance (especially maintenance) - Basically, just be able to mod these values. Obviously, they are tied to the resources used but it would be great to actually be able to adjust these values, either through using multipliers or through adding a base amount to whatever the cost would be. Maintenance would be great just to be able to set manually - it shouldn't be determined by components anyways.

2) AI valuation in trading - what I mean here is changing how much the AI values things such as technology, wars, peace, etc. Being able to mod how each race values these things. Possibly setting it as a percentage of the base rate that is used now (whatever that may be). Using percentages will allow more mod ability.

3) Planetary adjustments - it would be great to be able to set how much revenue colonies actually generate. Allowing different races to generate different amounts of revenue depending on the planet type. Also, to be able to modify the population growth by race and planet type (e.g. have humans grow faster on continental but slower on volcanic). Finally, it'd be great to adjust how much money the state actually brings in through a colony. In other words, have money "lost" into normal activities.

4) Empire policy - although there's a good deal here, the areas I'd really wish to modify are not. The main one being determining how much money the empire saves and how much it spends - having much more mod abilities for these aspects - possibly as a percentage of the money they make. Also, more ability to mod how the empire spends such money - having the ability to set percentage focus of spending in areas (troops, defenses, ships, etc.)

5) AI policy towards the player - what I mean here is how the AI interacts with the player. At what level will they start to trade technology. Modding government bias as well as race bias. More changes here would be great as well.

Notice I used the word percentage a lot or manually putting values in. Really being able to modify these values

Anyways, just my wish list.

Edit: 6) Music for individual races - would like to mod the music that is played when you open up the dialogue screen with a race.

Yeah, I'd like all of the above as well, but I haven't noticed most of the regulars wanting the same. Not sure what's going on with that. Even understanding that the devs may not give us these tools, there is no reason not to politely ask. If nothing else it tells them we want that kind of control in DW2.

Matrix should hire the DW modders onto the DW2 team.
