Pirate smuggler, only a couple years in. One of my starting mining stations in the Indaseun system was in the process of retrofitting to a new design when it was captured. Then it fell off the planet somehow and got fixed in space.

The planet still thinks it has a mining station attached ( the mining station button is greyed out for that reason), but the mining station doesnt seem to be mining anything. The only things it has in inventory are upgrade components it didnt use.

Scrapping the station still left the planet unable to build a mining station which really sucks its a nice planet.

On a possibly related note, in my previous game I was unable to build a new regional capital after scrapping one.

I've had exactly the same problem playing as a Normal Empire (and for a large number of Mining Stations) in a couple of games now.

I've had this issue too. Eventually my whole home system was effected by this bug. Had to quit the game after that :(. This game is unplayable for me until this bug is fixed.

I have the same issue too. Scrapping and rebuilding does NOT work because it just says there is already an existing mining station.

Same issue here. Thing floated around in the system orbiting the star in a CCW direction. Kind'a lost track of it. Had no problem building another one at the planet it got unhooked from.

This bug has been going on as long as I can remember (probably original DW, but certainly from RotS).
However I always thought it was a cosmetic glitch only, as I see traders still going to and from the station.
I haven't confirmed the cargo situation.

Last I remember it was fixable via the game editor. Erase the station and then slap down a new one. Go back to playing.

Now that I'm paying attention i'm seeing this a LOT. Unsure if refitting/capturing is actually a factor. I do not recall ever seeing it before Universe.

I think it has something to do with refitting, could be wrong.

It's possible, but it has to be in combination with something else still.
Last game I've refitted all of them, only noticed this happen to 1 mining station in my home system.

I do wonder if it has to do with construction being interupted; like pirate or kaltor comes into system and constructor flees, I wind up having constructor repair the station because that is the only way I know of to get them back on task.

I don't think so only because it happened to me in one game to a HEAP of my bases (I was refitting all of them through the ship menu at once). Maybe the menu refitting is why ? Dunno.

You misunderstood me. I've refitted many of them manually and only noticed 1 base this particular game that it has happened to (in other words, manual upgrade is not going to cause it to happen for sure, although it could be related). I don't remember for sure if during initial building it had to be finished by repair, which since my last post I also read another thread mentioning the issue happening because of repair.
