Not to go off topic, but I have to ask: After spending years with WaW and MBT especially, I could no longer deal with the micromanagement and very long turn resolutions. If there is a cure, let me know :)

Micromanagement is the whole point of Steel Panthers, but it is at the company/battalion level. This is tactical combat done in turns which last 3-5 minutes in real life terms.

I'm fairly sure I used X-Mouse correctly, but nothing happened, or rather I still have no Artillery.

Re Micromanagement. I tend to think giving each unit a turn by turn command is not the end of the world, now, giving each pilot a command might be. Micromanagement is only hell at operational and higher when it also means research and production.

Plenty of Mega Campaign turns don't really involve scores of units. I like Screaming Eagles for this reason.

Play smaller scenarios

Hi,

And, what about WinSPWW2 and WinSPMBT from CAMO Workshop, are they not the ultimate evolution of this game ? (They are free, Windows compatible, High resolution)
The only thing missing is the possibility of real time multiplayer games (SPWAW can do this - Maybe the solution is to split this two games based on the same engine in a single, with the best things of each).

regards

Bongo

Sp Camo's version, to their credit, perform properly and correctly within my Windows 8.1 even seeming to have no overt mouse issues.

Their releases though are based on the Steel Panthers 2 code where as the Steel Panthers World at War based release from Matrix Games uses the Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat code. And aside from knowing that, that is the limit of my knowledge of the code :)

I likely would have walked away from SPWaW years ago, but years ago Matrix Games created the Mega Campaigns, and to be honest, without the Mega Campaigns, it is not really much of a program at all, especially in contrast to the SP Camo releases which run better and have just as much depth of 'stuff' to offer even if they do it their own flavouring.

Currently, without the artillery being sorted out, my SPWaW install is wasting space on the system.
I have no reason to understand why the arty screen works on the SP Camo releases, I can merely state, that it does. (I just looked).

I've got SPWAW running on Windows 7 and BOMBARD screen works just fine. Oh yes, I've got *.cmd file to run the game which looks like this:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
mech.exe
Start explorer.exe

Plan B is likely I try it on the desk top box (which currently is the unwanted uncle sitting in the corner hoping I don't kick him out of the house).

The motherboard you see is 'questionable' and from start to fully ready to operate is usually 30 minutes from power on to ready to go.

But it still has Windows 7 ultimate.

The day I purchase a new laptop he's being told to get out though :)

A reboot of Steel Panthers really is the only game I'm truly waiting for. We need a monster tactical game. The recent tactical wargames are either boardgame conversions which means they are very abstract by nature or it's 3D i.e Combat Mission X2 and Graviteam tactics (both amazing games). We need a proper top down either WEGO or turn based in depth, uber detailed monster tactical wargame. A game that models things in great detail from weather to individual solider moral, from close combat to vehicle component damage. One which does alot but isn't a click fest and has good command and control movement mechanics. Would model leaders down to squad level. Would model off map arty in detail including things like modifiers due to weather\atmospherics. Model radio comms historically. Multi level buildings including sewers. Fortifications like trench networks and dug outs. Realistic ballistics model. Include all types of Inf so we can have paratroops or Serbian ski troops etc etc. Model resupply and reinforcements. Bridge building by pioneers (including different types of bridge). Have a good camo system and have things like Japanese spider traps aswell as underground tunnel systems. A decent air aspect with pilot skill and strafing tactics\STUKA dive bombing (Stuka have a moral hit aswell). Things like concussion modeled so troops could be killed by concussion due to close proximity. Detailed SOP settings from squad to individual weapon settings (that way you can give the squads lmg different SOPD's to the riflemen.

Orders will be carried out aswell as that units leader can. SO you set the SOP's. Then give your units their orders for the battle. Once under way if you want to change the order for a unit and they have a radio you can get the order to them quickly, however if they don't you have to send a messenger so takes time. So alot of the planning will be done before you hit start and after that you'll be adjusting on the fly with command delays and relying on your Officers and nco's.

Have a decent rpg aspect when it comes to your troops so you feel attached.

Give the player lots of decisions yet at the same time not to complicated to play.

Create a new install file, one that’s all patched up to 8.403. One that starts the game through a mech.exe shortcut (ask if you don’t know what I’m talking about). It’s easy, freeware installers can do this, so can your paid software.
Clear out some of the cruft, if you wish I can send you a slimmed down version for review.
...
Bundle up the Enhanced Mod, along with anything else that adds value, add it all in and present to the world a New. Improved. Game. - Steel Panthers World at War V9.

I just had read mass e-mail send by Major Mess. It seems SPWAW Depot is right now doing that on their own. One installer which includes SPWAW 8.403, Enhanced mod, updated encyclopedia, removed duplicates, and then some. What took you so long?
