The Pirate AI seems to have gotten into its head to build massive clusters on starbases on the same gas giant. So far I have had to cancel about 5-6 small starbases at one gas giant, and another 3-4 on another gas giant. It seems like force-cancelling it does not seem to discourage it from building more clusters, and theres nothing in the empire policy or options where I could turn off starbase manufacturing without making the entire thing manually controlled. Is there a way I can turn off the automaton AI from building starbases while not affecting it building mining bases or gas mining bases?

Hi Nanaki

By starbases, do you mean spaceports? Multiple pirate spaceports at the same planet? Do you have the savegame for this?

Thanks
Elliot

This happened a lot in my AAR game. Pirates having multiple spaceports on the same planet, that is. Would it help with a game that has this? That is easy to find, I figure you want a game where the AI is about to build multiple ones, though?

This was the extreme version:

I think it is 7 small spaceports. If the AI wants to defend pirate locations, that is the way to do it ;-)

The game had "many" pirates. Maybe it happens if a pirate clan get the urge to "build another one", but can not find a new location?

I am quite sure it's related to the 'stations detaching bug'. We can simply use the editor, remove the floating and detached stations, but... the AI can't. I'd say it's related to just that bug.

If it was station detaching, the spaceports should be "left behind", no? I have seen a small spaceport directly below a large one too. More than once, I think. And never one that is "way off" the gas giant it was built at.

I have never noticed a station detach, btw.

It is not related to station detaching, it happens when theres a lot of idle constructors and the AI wants to build a starport at a planet, it will assign multiple constructors to build a starport at the same planet (as the AI seems to not realize it already assigned a constructor to build one there) and the result is the significantly large number of starports.

I could easily make one, its fairly reproducable.

I think the above is correct. There is probably nothing preventing multiple spaceports from being built. Just like you can build a gas mine and a research station, for instance.

I am not motivated by pirate play myself, though, so I have not seen it first hand. But it happened maybe 4-5 times at least, that I saw, in the same game (AAR one). And that 7 spaceport planet was a bit special.

It should be very reproducible even without playing pirates, as said above.
