What are the movies that have both scifi and war elements, and we can agree to be war movies? Some I know:
War of the Worlds
Independence Day
Starship Troopers
Battle: Los Angeles

And I think Star Wars ones are closer to adventure movies...

Edge of Tomorrow is a really good recent sci-fi war film with some very explicit references to contemporary warfare.

So the clone wars is not really a war?. I'm sure the Germans thought that "their" tour in Russia was not war but an adventure too! No one was mentioned the terminator movies yet.

Wing Commander - not highly recommended

War of the worlds

And if you aren't hard core about the sci- Fi requirement but can extend to horror/vampires - "The Keep"

Do you mean the computer made animated serie? That could count as war, but it's not movie...

Wing Commander is a lot funner if you imagine it's actually a U-boat film in space.

I saw EoT last weekend and it is very good. I was a bit skeptical because the trailers show the future soldiers using power suits. I thought they might distract me from the story but really they blend right into the background as "equipment" and the story and characters stand right out in front.

Gradenko - Wing Commander as a boat film set in space? Weird but I guess it can't make it any worse.

I'll add to my earlier list: Dr Who and the Dalek invasion of earth

Predator -

Saw it today after reading the good reviews online. It was good. Kind of a "Starship Troopers" meets "Aliens" meets "Groundhog Day".

Battle beyond the Stars - a version of 7 Samurai in Space

Gunbuster (OVA) - lots of fighting, but most interesting because it considers relative time passing for different characters

Grave of the Fireflies - if you want to be totally depressed

I recommend the All you Need is Kill manga which is an adaptation of the novel that Edge of Tommorow was based on. It doesn't have the hollywood stupidity of the move and doesn't have the annoying political correctness.
