So I started a pirate game and was kinda near a settlement that I started to build pirate bases on. When I began the 3rd base about half way through it decided that the ackdarians would use that particular planet to start their own empire from.

So I got into orbit with 8 escorts with 2 pods each. I started dropping them onto the planet to help repel the enemy.

I looked and realised I had been in fact... reinforcing the ackdarians with my own pods as it considered them the attackers and assumes all attackers come from space and no defender would drop more troops from space (or something?).

Kinda dumb tbh. Would've expected the devs to account for this and put the correct troops into the correct group.

Unless I'm overlooking something, which would actually be a relief?

ya this sucks what happened is a different pirate faction was raiding or civil war was happening as well when attempted to raid the planet(as well as this situation, its the first time i have heard of this situation happening TBH). the game put you on one side and you help them achieve victory

the only way i know how to avoid this is to look at the planet before i invade or raid to make sure no other combat is going on, i have had pirates help me win several ground combats even from other pirates.

your troops should have been teleported back to the ships from which they came though

post save in tech support

This kind of thing happens to me all the time. I save before invading as they are in orbit ALWAYS.

I've had 5 hot keys worth of troops lost more times then I can count due to a pirate ship or another faction zipping in and invading or them attacking a hidden pirate base previous to my attack.
The latest patch supposedly fixed one scenario, but there is def more then one.

Yeah cool, I just wasn't sure if it was something I did or had to do.

Hmm, seems to me that the troops you send if you don't 'control' the planet at should be reloaded onto transports if they are in orbit. If you don't leave your transports in orbit, then they should disband.
