I'll be supporting Italy tomorrow - just to see the smile wiped of Suárez's face.

And with Gerrard no longer being captain I can support England in at least recovering a little bit of pride.

Getting worried for Mexico now..... please score and put yourselves through Otherwise I can see Croatia nicking this in the last 5 minutes

LOL Hypocrite!

This is why Warspite wanted Mexico to trash Croatia... He's the only one who was going to harvest points IF Mexico won the match

Hopefully tomorrow both Italy and Costa Rica trash their opponents. In plain English that means I will be the only one (well, along with Orm) who will be harvesting points

Pretty exciting game to say the least

After celebration Mexico will have to prepare to dance with the ugliest one from group b, gulp!

I'll be supporting Uruguay tomorrow. I can't fathom a most fitting final game for the occasion than Brazil-Uruguay.

Hypocrite?

What are you talking about? Why does wanting Mexico to do well make me a hypocrite? I think you have the wrong word there....

Oh and FWIW there are two reasons for me wanting Mexico:

a) I saw them at Wembley during the Olympic Games 2-years ago on their way to winning the tournament. As a result I sort of adopted them.
b) In another World Cup competition I have entered at work I picked them to go through with Brazil.

neither of which makes me a hypocrite....

Well, the big question of the day. Can England hold the Costa Ricans?

Uruguay greatest troll. Luis Suarez is beyond chaotic, maybe not most ethical player but he can get into the mind of his adversaries. Great striker, Go Uruguay!

England were a bit lucky though. Costa Rica only needed a draw and wanted to avoid any injuries. They never got out of second gear.

Congratulations to Costa Rica by the way. A great tournament for them.

Best wishes,
Steve

I thought that was England's worst game. the only consolation is Italy also never got out of the group.
having said that we were a poor team in 2010 and looked a better team this time around. Slight hope for the future.

Lampard says he's not sure he will be at another world cup..fat Frank .. you'll be 40! this was it. thank you for all you've done, but its goodbye.

And given the events of the game an ugly, vicious and petulant "smile" that I hope never to see on a football pitch ever again.

Beware of Greeks taking penalties. Or something like that. Another smashing match in a World Cup that continues to be as entertaining as ever. Congrats to the Greeks.

The scoreline was a little harsh against Japan but overall, the Colombians were good value for the group.

Best wishes,
Steve

Who would have thought it? Either Costa Rica or Greece will be in the Quarter-Final

I wanted the Ivory Coast but it would have been harsh on the Greeks who hit the woodwork 3 times..... Good game.

Ivory Coast has been a bit hit and miss. They have lacked consistency when they most needed it. The Greeks deserved the win.

Best wishes,
Steve

Yes indeed. I fear FIFA will prove weak, but given his previous they would have no excuse to be.

Me too.

The African teams are the biggest disappointment in this WC. They don´t play their original style, but they also aren´t able to play modern, rational European style.

Greece advancing to the last 16 is a real shame, sorry. I "hated" their non play style back then, when they "won" the EC in Portugal. Nothing has changed since then.

btw. great match day, Warspite.

100% professional actors?
Come within 3 inches of an Italian player, he falls down in what appears to be agony, rolls 4 times around the field, only to jump up either to cheer or yell at the ref, after the ref has given a free kick one way or another.

England wins 2-0 (Gerrard and Rooney)

oops, we did it again...I'm sorry...maybe next time.

oops, we did it again...out at first turn...maybe next time.
we can take the same flight. disaster. Italy deserved to go home (2 shoots in 3 matches).

I think the reason for African teams not playing their original style, is that many if not most players play for european clubs now. So they have lost their roots. Often the National teams have European coaches that try to do the best that they have. Many of the coaches played years back in the 1980's

I used to always say, the African teams have great players. The coach tells them to play 4,4,3 they train this tactic for weeks. Matchday comes and they change their tactic, without telling the coach, to a 1,10. All charging with or without the ball to the goal on the other side of the pitch.

They still do have great players, but I feel they don't seem to play well together in their national teams. Great in their clubs where they have mixed nationalities and a completly different team setup.
They are getting better year by year but I still feel they have a long way to come. Maybe next time.

Well, it's the toughest ever FIFA punishment but I still reckon Suarez got off a little light. Uruguay are appealing the decision and without doubt the ban will hurt their World Cup chances badly.

He is a serial biter. Perhaps once he has served his four month ban he will have to be muzzled before being allowed back on the football field. Something Hannibal Lecterish perhaps.

Best wishes,
Steve
