Status: offline 		Kendari will be invaded relatively soon, but it will take a little while to finish shuffling forces in from Milne Bay. Forces are prepared for Ternate and Manado but we might bypass them or bypass them at first.

Our subs got a TK.

2,725 AV at Chungking. The Empire has noted the lack of fighters at Tsuyung and ambushed our Chinese B-25 (B-25D) raids on Imperial troops along the road south of that city.

Probably 200 or more Franks swept both our base at Bassein and various hexes in the area. We did OK but I would have preferred to lose fewer Spitfire VIII. See tally below. We did some rearranging of squadrons. Still have more we can bring in if need be.

Saipan is now well supplied and the troops rested enough for a general attack tomorrow. After that we will start pulling out divisions to lighten the logistical load of attacks and allow better recovery. Airfield service damage is now 24%, so it looks like the port will begin repairs tomorrow. Naval search out of both Yap and Saipan begins tomorrow.

The Marcus invasion forces continue toward the objective and now a number of cruiser bombardment TFs set out to join them. Three or four days from now will be D-Day.

The Agrihan troops begin loading tomorrow as well. There will be no shock attack required there, so two of the units being ~90% prepared when landing should be OK. The fleet carriers now near Yap are moving NE, and will make a pass at shipping around the Bonins before covering the Agrihan invasion. They will also be in position to support the carrier/battleship forces covering the Marcus invasion should that be needed.

There is a sighting of an IJN TF with 2x CA and 2x APD at Roxas in the central Philippines.

Here are the day's air losses from Tracker, which shows 5 or 6 fewer Franks lost compared to in-game.

Definitely more than 3,000 casualties at Chungking. One attack alone tallied more than 1,100. 2,644 AV there now.

No Imperial sweeps today, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them. Units continue repositioning and rebuilding.

The defenders at Saipan are still making things costly for us. The 2nd USMC Div is pulling out now, and two of the USA divisions will pull out the following day so that all three can begin rebuilding and preparing for a future target. After the remaining forces have recovered sufficiently they will bombard to see what effect that has. Supply was a negative modifier for the Imperials today, but as recently as yesterday their flak was knocking our 2EB out of the air. If they are just now running out of supply that should change things. It does look as though we disabled half of their remaining combat squads today, so the worst might be over.

One or more units has been destroyed on Kwajalein, evidenced by the 4EB from Kusaie re-targeting to IJ forces stranded on Ontong Java.

Spitfires are still flying out of Kalao. It looks like another bombardment is coming in tonight. We have mine layers on the way that should be able to make their run the day after. But, there might be enemy presence then too, so we'll have to wait and see what develops tomorrow.

Here is a look at the Kalao area. The TF SE of Soerabaja includes at least one DD, while the TF near Bandjermasin includes at least one CL.

No change of status in Burma, units still moving and rebuilding and so far no indication that movements have been recognized.

One bombardment group heading for Marcus has been slightly spotted. No matter, the landings take place tomorrow and all but one bombardment TF will strike overnight. One group centered around a CL is too far away and will be available for followup strikes if needed.

Our fleet carriers have been spotted ~200 nm WSW of Iwo Jima. There is a convoy already heading north and now midway between Chichi Jima and Torishima, but otherwise only what looks like a small surface combatant force (destroyers) at Haha Jima. The carriers will head for Agrihan.

The Agrihan invasion will land tomorrow also. There will be no supporting bombardments.

The troops that will remain at Saipan until it is secure will bombard tomorrow. Unless results are bad, it will be kept up for a few days to deplete Imperial supplies. Even at 15,000 ft they are damaging our 2EB, so they must have some supply remaining! The 43rd and 6th IDs are being pulled out tomorrow.

Yap is secure.

Kalao was not hit overnight and the mine layers made better time than expected. The base now has 200 defensive mines in place. The next field will be ordered placed one hex to the west to present an obstacle to the approach of any bombardment group.

While many replacement squads are still required, great progress is being made in rebuilding the units assigned to take Iwo Jima. At which time they will, of course, begin rebuilding all over again.

Here is an overview map. Notice the stream of ships approaching Marcus Island and the USN fast carriers WSW of Iwo Jima. The invasion forces just west of Agrihan are also visible.

Status: offline 		Do I hear the sound of B-29s warming up? Two months and the Home Islands will start feeling fire in the sky. An avalanche rolls toward Japan. The Chinese gambit by Admiral Wa has tied up so many troops that the island hopping campaign has been remarkably easy after Truk was vanquished. Again, nicely done.

I know you hurt elements of the KB and friends earlier, but isn't the big 6 of the original KB still around. I can't remember now.

Marcus Island was both captured and secured. The base has moderate damage, a total of 122% damage out of 300%, so it will take a bit to repair before fortifications are established. The fleet carriers are heading south to refuel near Guam. Then they will head to Babeldaob and prepare to escort an APD convoy carrying troops to occupy Talaud-eilanden. Quick in and quick out is the plan. The APD convoy has loaded on Australia's Pacific coast and will refuel at Beola.

Here is a look at a contact in the South China Sea that could be fleet carriers, or just a well escorted tanker convoy.

Status: offline 		May Fuso turn turtle and join her many sisters in the deep. However, unless additional damage is done or some japanese sailor screws up the damage control detail, that BB will probably survive long enough to run the sub gauntlet around teh Home islands. Your subs are really starting to score a lot of victories. Nice to see an S Boat do the deed and survive to tell about it.

Our subs came up empty and one was badly damaged.

2,642 AV at Chungking. Our brave infantry eliminated an Imperial engineering unit that was trying to sneak its way back to their orcish brethren.

A little excitement in the Burma region, as 2 Betty bombers tried to raid shipping at Ramree Island. Perhaps they were testing defenses, but they had to report their findings by radio. Otherwise units continue rebuilding nicely.

The attack at Agrihan went less well than hoped. The next attack will benefit from more preparation and will be accompanied by naval bombardments. Disruption was not terrible but must be recovered before we go again.

The bombardment attack at Saipan basically did nothing. Our aircraft are still being damaged, so supply is still present. Tomorrow they will get all naval bombardment groups in the area (meaning none for Tinian, but not the fast BBs) and a deliberate attack by the four ID and other units present.

The Wake invasion forces are loading along the coast of New Guinea and will take on supply at Truk on their way to Wake Island.

I spoke too soon about Namlea being shielded by Kalao, but it is still substantially true. The IJN CL gaggle was not seen the day before bombardment, nor are they seen now on their way wherever it is they are off to. The surface group from Darwin is being home-ported at Namlea to cover the arrival of the base force in two days, and two squadrons of P-38 have been flown in and put on CAP.

The assault team at Agrihan attacks tomorrow. It looks as though another unit on Kwajalein has been eliminated. Fuso has just made the sunk ships list; I am not convinced. Saipan airfield will begin offensive operations tomorrow, against Agrihan, as a base force is being loaded now at Guam for residence on Saipan. The P-38 group will also sweep Iwo Jima.

Here is a look at Namlea. Minor damage, and the units present (all combat forces) are little disrupted.

The sweep over Iwo Jima got us one Imperial Tie Fighter for none of ours. Manado is shut down to offensive operations but we lost a few 4EB in the deal today. One was even shot down over Tinian - buggers!

Tomorrow the surface group ex-Darwin will be on station at Namlea covering the base force's convoy arriving at the same time.

Found them! They had waltzed right through continuous naval search coverage. Perhaps weather was a factor? A sub mine-laying TF is passing by there with 180 mines, intent on a spot near Soerabaja to interdict those CA that hit Kalao. Instead they will, tonight, lay all 180 presents in the very hex where those CL are currently seen. If they are making for Zamboanga to rearm, then we might catch them on their next run.

The Empire's vampires staged a massive LRCAP meet up over the battle hex SW of Toungoo. They mainly had success against two Vengeance squadrons, but took other aircraft as well. They did pay a price. This day was made possible by us not putting the P-47 squadrons back on sweep after the recent carrier raid.

It looks like the heavy cruisers are on their way into Kalao. Our ships at Namlea have been spotted, both the surface group and the convoy. Our fast carriers, the fast battleships as escorts, and several cruiser bombardment groups are heading from the vicinity of Yap to near Talaud-eilanden. An APD convoy will meet them there in two days to dislodge an engineering unit to take possession of the vacant island. The bombardment groups will hit Manado.

That's new info for me! I have tried mines in deep water and never got a hit, even though I know enemy ships sailed over them within a turn or two.
I assumed ineffectiveness was the reason but I guess I just didn't get lucky enough.

Oh contraire! I did convert those three nice large mine-laying subs to SST. Kinda going with the feel for things. I'm using them right now to supplement airborne supplies to Kalao. I know it would have been better - more competitive - to keep them as mine layers, but I just decided to go with that upgrade.

I figure that if I get a shot at the CL group with the mine field then that will only happen one or at most two days after it is placed. My fast carriers are going to be visible to him in the area either next turn or, I think for sure, the turn after. If a return mission to Namlea hasn't been launched by then, it won't be.

Our troops at Saipan will rest another day before attacking. One ID has 17% and another 12% disruption, and no need to rush things and have results that cause longer rebuilding times. One more day then another attack, meanwhile the bombing and naval bombardments continue.

One of the Wake Island convoys has refueled and is loading supplies at Truk, the other will arrive tomorrow and do the same. They will merge before setting out for Wake.

The fast carriers, their escorts, and the APD Talaud-eilanden invasion convoy are all spotted. The convoy might land troops in the second phase tomorrow or might only arrive at the target. The fleet will be on station covering. No joy on those mines for the CL TF, and little chance they will head the same way now!

Colorado has finished an upgrade at Pearl Harbor and will now head to the Marianas via Truk.

It looks like we have destroyed the last unit on Kwajalein, so an under-prepared combat unit will make a landing ASAP.

The troops on Saipan will attack tomorrow, the worst disruption being 10% and 12%.

Kalao was hit from the air again.

Recon of Iwo Jima is underway. Results are in - ~20k troops, etc. - but experience shows that several days will be required for accurate data.

Admiral Harms was present and playing in the finals for the main trophy at noon. He extends his compliments. I played a massive game of the entire Omaha Beach landing (3 x 3 players) over three of the four days. More fun than should be legal.

That sounds like great fun! I'll be pinging Admiral Harmasaki in our 2x2 emails to get details and, hopefully, photos of him receiving his trophy.

Omaha Beach in ASL? Did you guys finish the scenario? Was it multi-day?

The august admiral is digging post holes. I think the auger ran out of gasoline so he is using a spoon. Might take a bit. Meanwhile the alpacas look on and urge him to go faster, because they want a larger house and they want it now. Never mind that their house has no roof, they won't hear any argument.

I guess the Congress in 1941 acted a little more promptly than current day gatherings of the Partisan Bickering Society of Dilitantes and Just Plain Despicable Fools. It would probably have taken the current Congress 6 months to bring to a vote a declaration of war!

The full Omaha Beach campaign scenario is 40 turns long. The Map was about 12 feet long and 3 feet deep. As usual with ASL, the landing rules did not fully mesh with the game maker (CH) special landing rules. So much discussion was needed to determine how to play those events. We played 3 days 9A-9P and managed 5 full and one partial turn. Great fun was had by all 6 who played. I would play it again in a heart beat. OH, Admiral Harms did win the big tourney trophy.

Good luck on your upcoming landings.

The end is much closer at Chungking, but I really don't know how long it will take the dastardly Imperials to recover from today's general attack. Can they attack again before we start getting those destroyed units back? There are 3 Imperial units heading into Chungking from the west, so those units might not have time to reappear. 1,668 AV at Chungking right now - ouch!

The heavy Imperial convoy activity is now moving south, heading back out from Tavoy, so I presume (from the CA escort) that troops were being ferried in. The armor in the battle hex SW of Toungoo is now heading for that railhead city for redeployment to the battle hex SE of Prome. By the time they reach there we should have all the USMC and USA squads filled out and upgraded. Unfortunately, 1 or 2 days to reach Toungoo, then up to 3 days to start mode 1 day to Magwe, 2 days to Prome, up to 3 days from strat mode, then up to 2 days to the battle hex, almost two weeks will be chewed up redeploying. Will this take place before DAW HQ catches wise and responds?

The attack at Saipan went well. Based on counting the destroyed units and those reported wiped out later, I think there are 5 defending units left at Saipan, but mouse-over shows 3 and only about 6,800 troops. Two of the divisions are up in disruption and will stand down. The other combat units will continue attacking.

1,627 AV at Chungking. When the Empire will consider itself ready to attack again is any body's guess.

All of the armour from the battle hex has made it to Toungoo and are entering strat mode. I calculate that we will have more than 4,000 AV in the hex SE of Prome for the attack. There are currently 1,295 Imperial AV there. Maybe a shock attack will be in order...

The units that were tasked with Saipan have all been re-tasked to Naha. More engineering units are on the way, with the combat units to be pulled out, brought to the rear (northern coast of New Guinea), and split up to take replacements.

The land invasion forces for Iwo Jima are almost ready, with the exception that the 1st Marine Division still needs about 3 weeks worth of replacements, presuming a squad per day per regiment. A mass of engineers has commenced unloading at Agrihan to get that base ready for its support role in the invasion. The port is 55% to size 1, where it will stay until the air base gets maxed out.

Here is a look at the Bonins and a small IJN convoy heading there. Lexington and Saratoga, in company with Iowa and New Jersey, are heading in from the east to intercept. The remaining fast carriers are presently midway between the Marianas and the Philippines and just north of Agrihan. They are heading north on a line just west of Daito Shoto. Both groups are unspotted so far as I know.

The Lexington and Saratoga intercepted a small convoy at Chichi Jima, but lost 15 dive bombers for making hits on one xAK. The main fleet carrier group is unseen 10 hexes SSW Daito Shoto and will move north during the night. There is a large convoy, with many destroyers, at Daito Shoto.

The last of the Spitfires have finally repaired and transferred out of Kalao.

BB Idaho has completed her upgrade and will make steam for the front.
