I'm building a carrier scenario with land-based support, and I wanted to test out the ELINT gear on the F-35C, the MQ-4, and the P-8. All of them pick up the ships just fine... but not a single one of them detected either an E-2D or an E-2C, in spite of passing within 15 miles.

This could set up a pretty darn boring scenario if everyone's being super-cagey with their EMCON.

Not sure if this is a bug or if I built something screwy... save attached. I do have the "Targets" side set to blind, and I thought that might be the problem... but the ship are getting detected.

Its not a general break. I am detecting many other aircraft radar types include Sentry, Mainstay, Gulfstream. Seems unique to the Hawkeye radar types. Note in to look.

Thanks!

Mike

Alright IL-20 Coot detected. Might just be an issue with the DB entry for the ESM set on the F-35. Will check with the guys. Might be a frequency thing or an error thing

Mike

That's the one thing I didn't do, drop in a bunch of other 'targets'. Thanks for looking into it.

Edit: did the P8 or MQ4 pick up the other airborne sets?

The Hawkeye's radar is a B-Band radar and many RWRs/ESM sets are not capable of detecting radars operating in the A-C bands. Try adding a ship with AN/SLQ-32(V)2 or later. The model seems to work as intended.

Thanks!

So does the US Navy (or USAF) have an airborne sensor that can passively pick up an E-2 (or other A-C band radar)? I'm a little surprised the P-8 can't do it.

What do I need to look for in the DB or in Balloogan's listings that would key me into a system that would work?

I would expect the USAF RC-135 Rivet Joint can. Have you tried that one? Or maybe the US Navy EP-3 Aries ?

Not yet... That's tonight's agenda, if the world cup semi-final is a blowout. :-)
