Hi Matrix games,

I am playing command in build 554 1.04 final, scenario carribean crisis, the showdown.

For some reason, several of my f16's won't refuel anymore. They keep 'heading to refueling point', but they all drop from the sky after a while. I have a tanker mission setup with two tankers. I have tried everything I can come up with, from dropping and reassigning the mission, to manual RTB, Refuel, manually setting speeds, you name it. I am not 100% sure, but when running this scenario with previous builds, everything seemed to work OK.

Another issue I had, perhaps related to the refueling, was that my F-16s for some reason went to the wrong home base location in a completely wrong location. I have not saved a game with this error and will do so if it occurs again and sent it to you.

If everything worked out as intended, I have attached a save game (zip) to this post so you can have a look. Since I am relatively new here, attaching files was not always possible so I am not sure if this works. If the file is not attached, please provide me with an email adres so I can sent it to you...

Any help with this issue would be appreciated because I cannot finish my scenario if this doesn't work. Perhaps it's a bug, perhaps my own fault, but please help me!

Thank you

I took a quick look,

A tanker support mission with 2 reference points, I think causes issues. In your setup the tankers while traveling east are at loiter speed (which I believe you want), but when they head west, they go back to their "transit" speed which is set at "cruise".

IMO, the best way to do the tanker support missions is to have 3 reference points with the first and third RPs right next to each other. So that they keep their loiter speed. Example: Place RP#1, place RP#2 ~50nm away from RP#1, place RP#3 as close to RP#1 as possible.

The F-16s seem to have been thirsty for a while, so I don't think any "fix" will save them in the current save.

Thanks for the response Rudd.

The advice with the reference points is very welcome, I'll try it tonight. I do have some earlier save games to give my f16s some more time to see if it works out. Also, for other scenario's the advice is very welcome.

Somehow I doubt this will solve the issue however. I gave refuel (if possible) orders to the f-16s with half filled tanks and this should give them enough time to wait for a 'loiter' pass of the tanker(s). I'll post the results when available. I do note a lot of tech support issues/topics related to refueling, so there might be something else which is not functioning ok?

OK, I finally had some time this weekend to test the solution proposed by Rudd. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the issue though I will certainly use this approach to save fuel and make refuelling less necessary.

I also did some tests with a few tankers and F16s in a separate, similar setup. Overall, the refueling works, but if you manually order 'refuel if possible', sometimes strange maneuvers occur. Some times, the F16 misses the tanker and flies on for some time and then returns to the mission without having refueled...

For now, I cannot continue the scenario I am playing because I'll loose too many birds due to out-of-fuel. I guess I will start another one and park this until an update is available. Hopefully, this issue can be investigated by Matrix and hopefully solved (either by showing me what I do wrong, or by fixing it)...

Thanks,

Erik

Sorry for your trouble but stay tuned on this. We are actively working on this and expect the next public beta to offer significant improvements with refueling.

Mike

Great!

I'll park the scenario for now and play another until the beta build becomes available!

Thanks!

Hi Matrix,

Thanks for your tremendous effort with the new build 562.

I do still have some refuel issues with the new build. I have installed the new build and opened the scenario save files I showed in the previous posts. I did not start the scenario all over (which might cause issues??).

However, still my F16 won't (always) refuel and get stuck in line behind the tanker until they fall out of the sky. I have attached a save game where you can see their behavior. They seem to be moving left-right-left-reft-etc behind the tanker but they do not connect. It might be that I have made a wrong setting, but I cannot seem to find it. Could you please check how to solve the issue?

Thank you so much and keep up the fantastic work, this game is awesome and I enjoy it very much!

Erik
