Road detection apparently has become stricter / more picky in 2.03 / 2.04 / 2.05 such that it won't detect road networks where 2.01 would.
In my experience, clean HexDraw output is handled fine, but anything else (that renders roads in the official black + grey colors, 3-8-3 pixels wide) won't see roads recognized by 2.03 and later, whereas 2.01 handles it fine.
I've attached a file (rendering of GIS data by a GIS tool using the right colors) which is parsed fine by 2.01 (except the new level 6 elevation), but not by 2.03 and newer. 2.01 creates a road network for the grey roads.

This more strict road detection unnecessarily limits creation of new maps.
Using 2.01 (installed next to 2.04) is a poor work-around since it doesn't support more than 5 elevation levels.

William, we check it out. There was an issue a couple versions back where the road labels would not show. Could be that issue. We really haven't touched the map editor in a while.

Hi,
I think I reported that issue as well. That's a problem in 2.01, but once you're able to save the map (fix the 99 elevation values) the road tags are shown in the per hex info when you hover across a hex. None of that is happening in 2.04. Saving and reloading the map also doesn't help.

Appreciate you looking into this.

William

Thanks for your patience. I finally pulled this png into the map editor and found that it had altered the colors subtly! Your image has a shade of gray for the roads of 192, 192, 192 which is exactly as specified but the map editor reads it as 191, 191, 191! I don't know why but that is what it is telling me. I suspect a bug in a supporting library. The easy fix is to allow my road scanner to look for 192 +/- 1 in the code and that picks up all the roads. What I would really like to do is find out why it took each color level down by 1 in the first place.

So starting with the 2.06 release it will read your png images as is. In the meantime you might find it possible to bump the levels to 193, 193, 193 and see if that works in the map editor.

This is the first time this has cropped up. Sorry for the inconvenience and I will be testing for this routinely going forwards.

Thanks, Rob

Thanks for the status update, and indicating the 193,193,193 work-around. That will work for me.
