Really keen to purchase WiF and I am aware of the current state of the game. However, Matrix seem to be pretty up front about this and they seem to be moving forward releasing updates and squashing bugs. I just wanted to get a bit of an idea about Netplay in terms of whether it can be fixed or whether there is a possibility that the programmer gets to it and says nope sorry we are going to have to drop this feature? This is not exactly a $30-$50 so I am a bit cautious about purchasing.
Netplay will be fixed at some point. But the plan is to fix the remaining bugs in the game first since these would also affect Netplay as well. But no time given on when Netplay will be ready. But no one is planning on Matrix or the developed (Steve) not getting this to work

If the game bugs are not squashed first then really how useful or fun will Netplay be? First fix the bugs that mess up the game, then fix Netplay. I'm looking forward to Netplay as PBEM just isn't going to cut it playing this monster with so much player interaction and subphases.
Thank you for the responses, I totally agree that it makes sense to fix the bugs first before moving to Netplay (as per Steve's, 'going forward' thread), not knowing much about programming and not owning the game I was just a unsure about the state of netplay and whether it is fixable etc.
Yes but they are still being worked on. Compare that to other games that have known bugs and have been abandoned by the devs. So to me this is a positive that bugs are still being fixed

At a reasonable rate given one programmer. Good news is that Steve's health has stabilized ...

Come back in about three months time, I would suggest. On the other hand: MWIF has got quite a steep learning curve (even if you've played the board game), so you will need time to get used to the interface. You won't be able to say: I've played the boardgame, so that's easy...

"Wait and see.. everything will be good in the end.." that is same old same old.. exactly what I was fed up listening to six month ago. I take it we have not covered much ground since?
Netplay is a fantasy.. how about 1) supply calculation, 2) production planning interface and 3) summary windows? Any change there? Has anyone with half a brain played a game and enjoyed it in MWiF? Can I read something about it anywhere?

1. Almost 100% bug free. 2. Almost 100% bug free. Still a lot of work to get right due to the interface. 3. Summary windows? Don't know what you are talking about...

You can read the AAR's, there are a lot of simple minded souls there enjoying the game. No one there with your intellectual capacity obviously; if they had they would not be playing MWIF, but they're happy in their own little way. Bless.

Resident Half a brain Genius reporting.
Been playing with Firmir from Germany these last few months. We use Teamviewer and Ventrilo.
1st game was called in 1943 before most of the Supply issues were solved. During that time we came across a lot of bugs.
2nd game was called just as we entered 1944. We still had issues with supply and with naval stuff. The sending of BP's over the convoy line is still be waited on. We don't use the public beta. Only the public update.
Our current 3rd game finds us in 1941. We are hoping to see the latest patch go live. Otherwise the USSR will just get overrun without any BP's from the allies. Just like the previous 2 games.
We still have issues with German units in the med not getting supply. It makes pursuing a med campaign impossible. Example. Take Malta. Send German Marine to Malta. See it go OOS. During mud and Storm in the Med some hexes are Blackholes for German units but not for Italians.
If you use the 1D10 CRT. There are problems with it. Allied units getting jungle bonus.
Some naval air combats we just live with. When they go fubar. Trying to recreate the large air battles is just so time consuming. Sometimes CVp's will just hover over carriers and not actually be based on them. Convoy points will randomly become "no sentry" causing a backup file to be loaded to fix the problem. We just look at every convoy to make sure it is in sentry mode. Time wasted until you forget to check.
That's enough to chew on.
We do find some enjoyment playing it. It gets sucked away when we come across a bug that forces a workaround, save file, acceptance of rule breaking or just abandonment of plans.
btw, Nice to see you back Dabrion. Enjoy.

Are you saying there is no overseas Lend Lease because the routing of build points is buggy? Thats a serious issue (potentially game-breaking).. Is this being addressed?
Teamviewer in hotseat or solitaire? We just started a game and bounce savegames via dropbox. I figure it will be hard to keep track of the game in 42++ when you cannot observe the opponents impulse.
The other issues all seem familiar from "last time around".. too bad.

Solitaire mode. We accept US Pools are seen by both of us. Also Air vs Air is done with full disclosure. But of course we are public testers. So no big deal.
Teamviewer works quite well. There can be times of lag. Especially if there are background programs running. If neither of us have stuff in the background it works very well. Being able to pick up units on the other players computer is great. Especially for those non-phasing player interactions. Which can happen frequently at times. We use Teamviewer to send the files back and forth. About 1.5min load time.
Voice communication is mandatory. It really is. Texting would be time consuming.
Except for the "FOG" stuff Netplay would bring. This is a superior way to play currently for 2 players. IMHO
The issue with Build Points is fixed in the next patch update. When cleared for the Public we shall put it through the grinder for sure.

Well, I took the plunge and for better or worse am now an MWiF member. I feel as though this purchase can go one of two ways, like Operation Barbarossa or Operation Overlord
