I think we all need a recharge from Ops reports and the strain of command - what games do you guys do for a mental 'cold beer'?

I Play Pirates of the Burning Sea strictly 'red zone' PvP as a reflex and brain refresher.
This is a real time game of sailing ships, once you get up there you are free to battle other players - besides the mind boggling details of AE, I have never seen a game so demanding on instinct and game knowledge as this one.
Here is a video of a 'Gank' my son and I pulled off on a poor Spaniard traveling in 'red zone' outside Port Royal on Halloween morning a year or so ago (he knows how to do that recording stuff) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ks-5_RWj_bE&feature=youtu.be

I just find single ship combat duels relaxing...

My gaming time is typically between WITP and League of Legends. Sometimes both at once...

League is faster paced and totally different. I don't need to concentrate in the same way. Different "brain muscles", so to speak.

If I'm in the mood, also some kind of action RPG - Dark Souls, Skyrim occasionally. I picked up Neverwinter Nights again for a while but haven't played that in a few weeks (months?). Will also sometimes play Rising Storm for FPS action, but still WW2. I'm thinking in the near future I'll dive back into Sins of a Solar Empire. Or maybe go old school with Homeworld 2.

Command: Modern Air & Naval Operations (available here at Matrix);
Armored Brigade (indie development focused on WW III Europe); or
Sherlock (simple logical deduction game). I've played the DOS 2.0 version for the past 20+ years. When I need to kill 10-15 minutes.

I do the NYT crossword puzzle. It comes first before WitP-AE unless it's late.

Nothing comes before AE!!!!!

I really go mindless. Risk, Civ3, Imperialism II. What can I say, sometimes I just need to recharge.

Time between turns goes to the wife, the dog, the Honey Do list and if there's time left Command Modern Air/Naval Ops or Civ 3.

World of Tanks is a great way to kill 10-minute blocks of time, and you JFBs can even move up the Japanese tech tree in that one. I dabble in a few of those AGEOD titles (recently Civil War 2) and also Command on occasion.

Cheers,
CC

With 11 and 8 year-old boys the games are Monopoly, Jenga, and In a Pickle.

In the days BEFORE children (BC) it was AD&D and Phoenix.

Supremacy 1914, Civ IV, Gothic 3, STALKER mods - depending on mood and circumstances. No "killer games" when the kids are around, but slaughtering whole armies and destroying entire civilizations is ok. Wait, who said "hypocrite"?

Well depending on mood and how much time I can play, fairly I play Skyrim as a necromancer and Distant Worlds. I didn't want to get back in WitP:AE til I get my maps done.

I just starting playing Master of Orion III, and see if I can break it. Its a pretty hard game on medium setting along with 8 civilians on a huge 3-arms galaxy. Crossed off X's so this game would be sandbox, love playing the aliens, the Ithikuls :p

Used to spend WAY too much time playing MOO II. I tried MOO III but it didn't have the same simplicity of design and I missed that.

Would like to play another conquer the universe game at some point. Ideally turn based without the seemingly ubiquitous real-time elements (other than a bit of combat replay) where I can develop civilizations and terraform worlds, design my own ships, etc.

Any good new ones out there?

MoO II wasn't a bad game and loved it when I first played it back in mid 90's. MoO III is hard game to crack, depending on difficulty settings. Galaxy Civilization isn't that bad, infact they have part three out. I played it, its pretty good game, but not complete yet. Stardock will have it done hopefully by December, they lefted out the tactical combat.

Have you tried Space Empire Series? There also Free Orions too, incase you never heard of it.

I like to take a walk through the island jungle in FarCry3 with Ziggy’s mod.
My rig can run the graphics at max.
It’s quite beautiful with all the lush vegetation and sandy beaches.

I find exploring abandoned Japanese fortifications and fighting pirates to be a hobby in itself.
Also, hang gliding, hunting, swimming, boating, poker and road racing are available.

Just watch out for the pirates.

Ditto on the Kerbals. I've put countless hours into that game.

The DCS series of flight sims also has lots of my time lately.
