Finally figured out how to reliably reproduce this. When you use a non-constructor constructor to build a station, it always detach. Step to reproduce: 1. Create a new "Explorer" design, give it construction yard, docking bay, manufacturing plants, etc. I name mine "Mini Constructor" 2. Build a ship of the above design. 3. Use that ship to build a mining station (or spaceport, etc.) 4. As soon as the station is finished, it detaches from the planet. Having said that, I'm not sure if this is a bug or a "feature". Since pirates are not supposed to be able to build constructors early on, building mini-constructors like that definitely lets you circumvent that limitation. Once I figured out what was causing detached stations, I simply scrapped my mini constructors and play without them. However, it would probably be better to just disallow construction yards on any non-constructor role. Currently, the problem also arises when you stick a construction yard on something like a resupply ship (to use it as a mobile repair bays) and then use such ship to construct something in a pinch.
