All of the above are available on the Amazon Kindle store.

Thats just the military stuff, i do read up on a bunch of other subjects too.

The ones in bold i consider to be the cream of the crop and a good start for any collection.

Seapower: A Guide for the 21st Century especially, it is a modern day Mahan-esque textbook.

As is Strike Warfare: An Introduction to Non-Nuclear Attack by Air and Sea....very good book
.

I have a few print books left also, mainly oversize Naval institute guides to the soviet navy and US fleet, and a couple of old Janes.

Not to mention One Hundred Days, by Sandy Woodward. Probably the best memoir on the Falklands War you'll find.

Destroyer Captain by Admiral James Stavridis is a great little book on his time as a Burke destroyer captain.

Thanks for the interesting list. I'm a naval noob,so many of the books look a bit too specific for me--I just want a general better understanding of naval tactics and technology. Looks like Strike Warfare & Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat might be best for me?

While looking at those books on Amazon I came across a novel called Sea of Shadows by Jeff Edwards--do you know if there's any educational content in there?

Wow! Nice collection SSN754 , there's a lot of time (and bucks! ) invested there!

Needless to say, I've already downloaded many excerpts (oh, how I love Kindle's Whispernet ).

SSN really recommends great books!

I'd say America's First Clash with Iran: The Tanker War is important reading for games like Command. Really makes you think about tactics; and things you might not expect like AEGIS cruisers engaging Boghammers with their 5inch guns. If it were me calling the shots I'd willingly expect SM-2 against such targets; but then again I don't need to explain my expenditures to navy beancounters!

Other fantastic SSN recommendatsion I have loaded on my kindle are
China's Nuclear Forces: Operations, Training, Doctrine, Command, Control, and Campaign Planning - Counterattack, Attacks on U.S. Carriers and Naval Battle Groups, People's Liberation Army
Asia's Cauldron: The South China Sea and the End of a Stable Pacific
Seapower: A Guide for the Twenty-First Century

Next I think I'll get is Strike Warfare: An Introduction to Non-Nuclear Attack by Air and Sea.

Just a note...you don't need a Kindle. Any tablet will do and add the kindle app. I use an awesome Dell Venue 8 Pro that has a separate thread and can run Command also.

Here some of the publicly available pdfs for the above. Some those 21st century OPFOR guides are public domain. Some companies repackage them and sell them. I also included a few Russian export catalogs I had from 2004.

I add to the list constantly it seems. I have a deal with my kids that if I read a book, they have to read one also, and vice versa. The youngest one likes to watch me play command and is getting to know her Burkes from her Ticonderogas. Shes a daddys girl 100 percent!

I read this on my vacation. It was a pretty quick and easy intro into the basics of the kind game Command is. If I was to make a college degree path, this would be the 101 book, with Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat the 400-level textbook, with everything else in between in theater-oriented reading lists.

Brazo zulu for the list, planker.

I understood from the book that this is called "Aegis Arrogance" ;)

Nice collection mate mine are mainly based around ww2 I have loads and loads of books on that era. A book about the the Cold War which i have was from a great Channel 4 (in the UK) documentry called 'Cold War' by Jeremy Isaacs and Taylor Downing. Unfortunately they have never release it on any other platform no video, DVD or blu ray. If they ever did id recommend you watch it. I recently got hold of a book which is a first of a huge series of books. The one i got was called 'Soviet Air defence aviation 1945-1991' by Yefim Gordon and Dmitriy Komissarov. There are loads of books by these people and they are really useful for info and stats.

Again nice collection mate.

Is it that one?

And even if not, it is worth watching, they could even interview a few of the players who were still alive, like Fidel Castro and McNamara.

This isn't the Channel 4 version (UK) but it is another version perhaps an US one. It is from the Book I have though nice find I'm going to watch it again bloody great documentry.

For my own interest is it on DVD Blu Ray? I'd love to own it.

Thanks again for finding it.

I can't get the downloader at depositfiles to finish the download. Today is my 2nd attempt. I made the choice NOT to purchase and am using the "regular" download, as my funds are rather tight at the moment, but wish I could get it to work. My download stopped after 4 hours.

It's one of the few books I've seen that gives one a sense of what an air battle might look like, and what motivates tactics. I like how it showed the beam pattern for the jamming pods dictated the formations for F-105s. I like how they contrasted Rolling Thunder v. Linebacker campaigns, and how precision guided ordinance and the requirement for buddy lasing changed the ratio of strikers to support aircraft. I also enjoyed their description of the employment of chaff bombs.

I also thought it was interesting how the USAF looked really bad, while the Navy really shined.

Interesting book, its an odd mix: He tells the story of his Father and early SIGINT and Sub-coms before and during the Cuban Missile crisis - then transitions to his story (almost autobiographical) doing the cable tap deep dives in the 70's.

Well written and very good story with lots of interesting info.
