It has been 29 YEARS since Kansas City has had anything to cheer about with baseball but WOW what a game! In a nice SHORT FIVE hour game, 9-8 in twelve innings. I was 19 when when George Brett and Brett Saberhagen were the team then.

I'm dead and all fired up. GO ROYALS!

Kansas City? Where's that? Kansas? The Royals? Who are they? I have a vague memory, or maybe it was just a bad dream, from 1985.

Wow. I think that's the first time someone from St Louis has not brought up D.D. Wounds do heal!

Go Royals.

Watched every pitch.. finally calmed down and fell asleep around 2 this morning, and kids woke up at 6.

So.Tired.Today

It was a great game, but more infuriating than anything. Ned Yost is still managing, so I'm not THAT excited. He put us in ever imaginable position to lose last night, but we still won.

You have the three best relievers in baseball, and your stud only goes 88 pitches? Lets put a rookie starting pitcher in for relief...That's what I would do...

Also, I don't believe he even knows what a bunt is.

I punched a hole in my wall, made my wife cry on her birthday, and hyper-extended my elbow from celebrating all last night. I'm awesome.

Doesn't know what a 'bunt' is? Seemed like they had 3-4 of those--all successful--during the game. It was CRAZY!

I had month-end inventory and had to change all the signage at the store for the new advertising window starting today. Didn't even get into the store until 11pm and then didn't leave it until 2:30am. It is 7:30am and I am headed back into work for an 8a-6p shift. Life is GREAT though. The Royals are in the true playoffs and my life is now TOTALLY disrupted for the next week or so of time (maybe TWO weeks?? THREE???)

BANZAI ROYALS!!!

I'm talking about suicide squeeze and take the sure run when you're down late in the game.

Gore on 3B, down 8-7 in bottom of 8th, 1 out. No bunt.. wouldn't do it all year. It's fun, and has been fun, but Yost is awful. No two ways around it.

Life for the next week is disrupted I agree!! Go Royals!

Not a fan of either team, but that was a fun one to watch. Takes some cajones to steal 5 bases in the 8th and 9th innings when every baserunner matters.

As for bunting... I side with Yost on this one. There's a reason it's called a suicide squeeze, and even as fast as the KC guys are... all they have to do is put the ball in play. Instead, Perez chased 3 straight balls and struck out.

That last hit couldn't have been closer, either. If that had been a fastball instead of a curve, the ball wouldn't have curved left off the bat and Donaldson would've been able to grab it.

I think the last time I paid much attention to baseball was 1988 when the Dodgers won the series in very dramatic fashion. My father has switched his loyalties to the Angels because they are on TV and the Dodgers aren't. He's hoping to see a Santa Ana freeway series before he is done with this life.

Baseball has buoyed him on this year which is the first year he's ever lived completely alone. He's not sure what he's going to do when baseball season ends.

Anyway, may the best team win and all that...

Bill

Kansas City has eliminated one California team from the postseason - hopefully they can get rid of another. Nice start last night!

Winning in 11 after winning in 11 AFTER winning in 12: NEVER done before in baseball post-season history.

Two down, ONE to go...

Nice win, been a long time for the Royals.
St. Louis beat the Dodgers, maybe a repeat of '85 coming?

I got so disgusted with our (STL) offense I gave up and went to bed. It happens everytime I do that. I'd better keep it up. STL always has had Kershaw's number for some reason, and Matt Carpenter is usually the one to start it. Won't be hard tonight as the start time is way past my bedtime. I must be from Ork and not Gorn.

I just watched the Nats lose in 6 hours. Set a postseason record for game length, and longest Nats game ever both in terms of time and innings.

J. Zimmermann to the 9th inning, gets 2 outs. 1-0 Nats. 2 guys on base, and Pablo Sandoval doubles to score a run. Goes to the 18th inning and we lose on a mistake pitch.

If it had been about 15 degrees warmer (it's only about 50' F here tonight), several of the Nats' long fly balls might have made it out. It got colder and windier as the game went on. Other than Belt's home run, the Giants didn't really hit anything that hard all night.

Rough game to watch.

For the Nats game - has the manager been taken to task for removing Zimmerman after the bogus walk? Looked like most of the balls were strikes.

They were really, really close pitches. Could go either way. That was a rough walk. I wouldn't have pulled him. He had a chance to get a postseason shutout. That's pretty special.

The Nats do like to pull their starters early. In the case of Gonzalez and Strasburg, I think that makes sense. Those guys can be inconsistent. In the case of Zimmermann and Fister, not so much.

Congrats to KC!
Looks like it's back to the eighties in the AL: Baltimore hasn't been to/won a WS since '83, KC since '85.

And Kansas City has the opportunity to kick not one, not two, but THREE different teams from California out of the playoffs. Good for them.

The news in Colorado is comparing them to the Rockies of a few years back when they swept their way through the playoffs only to GET SWEPT against their AL competitor, DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN!
