*** UPDATE 2016-01-02, version 1.0.3 Release version. A lot more Soviet attacks and you can now play as Denmark as well. *** UPDATE 2014-10-25, version 0.8.2 with units removed "from radar" at startup and tighter coordination of Soviet units. *** UPDATE 2014-10-25, version 0.8.1 with updated DB, fixes and more Soviet units/missions based on feedback in this thread Now that the Swedish Navy is searching for Russian submarines in the Swedish waters again I got some cold war vibes and remembered that I started this scenario during the beta days but never really finished it. It works but the winning conditions are not really working and there are timing issues etc... It can still be fun to try out for the ones that get a bit nostalgic about the cold war ;) I have included an excel spreadsheet with the research of the Soviet Baltic Air bases that I did for it and a separate inst-file for the different airbases in the Baltics that I found information about if someone finds that interesting for their own attempts... 1991-10-22 - Sweden and Denmark vs USSR After the successful coup led by Vladimir Kryuchkov in august 1991 the generals have taken control over the USSR and restored the old Soviet Union. Tensions with NATO have now reached a level where war seems inevitable. There have been a number of border skirmishes in Europe and the Soviet troops moved into Poland last week "to restore order". Thousands of people have died in the streets of Gdansk, Warsaw and Krakow. The Soviet ground forces are now taking up positions along the border between Poland and Germany with demands that East Germany should be permitted to join the Warsaw Pact again. The Soviet Baltic Fleet has been very active during the last week, with naval forces leaving their ports in Kaliningrad and the Baltic countries. Notes: The scenario is designed to be played as Sweden - but you are welcome to try it as the USSR or Denmark too! Denmark has limited forces available to control so it is recommended if commanding Sweden gets overwelming! Briefing for the Swedish side: Yesterday a flight consisting of two Viggen aircraft from F17 in Kallinge/Ronneby was lost on a recon mission near Kaliningrad. It was an SH 37 escorted by a JA 37 that where shot down by SU-27:s from the Nivenskoye Air Base. Soviet claimed that they had violated Soviet airspace and where shot down without warning. Our reports indicate that they where on international water with a good margin. There have been many signs of a possible invasion force being prepared in the Kaliningrad area the last two weeks and yesterday the Swedish government issued an nationwide mobilization order. All conscript army personnel are to report to their wartime mobilization bases immediately It is now 06:00 in the morning of Tuesday the 22 of October in 1991. A heavy overcast has made satellite images impossible and radar stations along the southern Swedish coast are picking up a massive number of aircraft assembling in the air along the Baltic coast... Your main goal is to prevent a possible invasion of southern Sweden until NATO forces that are right now reinforcing Denmark during the day can turn the odds agains the russians, and our mobilization of conscripts give us more possibilities to defend ourselves from amphibious landings. Do not fire upon Soviet forces until fired upon. We do NOT want to start this war if it is just a Soviet show of forces without the intention to invade us. You are commanding the forces of Södra Miltärområdet - "Milo S" in Southern Sweden. It is possible that the Soviet forces will attempt amphibious landing on a number of places along the coastline you are defending. You have a number of smaller ships and three submarines, but your main assets are your aircraft. There are three air wings in southern Sweden - F10 Ängelholm (J-35 Draken), F17 Kallinge/Ronneby (JA-37, SH-37 Viggen) and F5 Ljungbyhed (Sk60 trainers/light attack). There are also a number of reserve air bases and road bases present. Some have no aircraft and some have aircraft from the permanent air bases that are spread out to lower the risk of desctrucion if the Soviets should target our air bases. You also been granted access to the AJ-37 attack squadrons from F7 Såtenäs in central Sweden. One of their squadrons is on the Reserve base Hagshult that is a bit closer - but don't forget to make use of the other two squadrons in Såtenäs. Objective for Sweden: If there will be an invasion today, you have to make sure that no more than 1500 Soviet troops can make succesful landings in Skåne before 12.00 today as the defences are not yet ready! They can come both in amphibious landing craft or from the air! Good Luck!
