Hi all
In italian witp ae community ( http://www.netwargamingitalia.net/forum/forums/war-in-the-pacific-admiral-edition.83/ ), we're considering the idea to create a mod on entire mediterranean war, a "war in the mediterranean" version of witp

the first obstacle is the map, I'm thinking to use a google map (satellite version), this is a preview: (I have it at high resolution)

not really comfortable to play, but really good looking, and above all it may be almost ready to use, we don't have knowledge to draw maps on ourselves.
can we use these maps to do mods? I'm saying about legal side

I've found this by google:

so use that map for a mod seems legit to me, I did that picture by google earth pro, so attribution like you can see is clearly visible at down left of map; but my english isn't so good, and a mod isn't just an application, so I'm unsure, what do you say? can we?

WiTP Mediterranean War would be great!! You wouldn't even have to translate - I'd keep an Italian translation window open when playing

Sorry to be a drag, but the War in the Med mod was already done. See here:

Though that's for the original WitP. I don't know of any mod that does it for AE.

Bill is correct. But I bet it could be used as a model. With permission of course....GP

Once you get your permission then go for it. If you have plenty of time to do it and it is not going to be easy.

Lucky I got permission from Microsoft to use my maps from satellite maps that connected to Bing's Map. I started my project back in May and still not even half way done lol.

Good luck :)

hi qwetry!
can't help you with google-maps.
...but very useful map-making material can be found here:

http://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/10m-raster-data/

it's absolutely free to use as in:
quote:

No permission is needed to use Natural Earth. Crediting the authors is unnecessary.

see for yourself:

http://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/

i use this material myself for my 'JATM' project - i'm sure you already knew that.

good luck with your project!
chem!

thank you, these maps are amazing

yes we know it, it was our inspiring idea.
today Fremen has given us permission to use his mod (it's starting from 1942 and ending in 1943), so our community will try to do a conversion to witp ae of his mod
at a later stage we may try to do a more ambitious scenario with help of Dili, a scenario starting from june 1940 (ww2 begins for italy), or from june 1941 (just before start of operation battleaxe in afrika, and after the end of campaign of grece), and ending in 1945, and with italian production on, it may be have italy like japan to manage, lack of resources and oil, and allied strategic bombing (from 1943).
or just add italian production to 1942 fremen scenario, it's early to say

by the way, if we'll be successful everything will be pubblished also in this forum obviously

just a little preview, a draft form of battleship Littorio, same class of BB Roma in my signature:
(made by cohimbra from fremen mod)
