Do you know why some of these supply circles are orange and why some are blue ? None of this area changed possesion, its all in Poland at the start of Barbarossa.

Only Blue forces can trace into Blue Locations. Only Red forces can trace into Red Locations. Both sides can trace into Gold Locations.

It looks like maybe it doesn't display the gold ones when New Supply is turned on ? [The first one I posted was with New Supply Off].

There's some differences in trace-ability between New & Old. Maybe that's what's going on. I'd need to see the file to figure it out.

Personally, I never pay the colors any attention, I don't think it really has an important effect on the game or any decisions I make while playing. I was only asking because I am working on the Supply Tutorial video and I thought I maybe should explain all the different supply trace color possibilities. However, I would be happier to dodge the issue [as I will dodge the combat calculations when I do the combat video]. Unless there is an easy to follow guide somewhere.

Well, if the enemy can trace supply into your rear areas then you know that you must have a gap in your lines somewhere. So, it at least tells you that, for what it's worth.

Some features post-date the manual and are described in the "What's New.doc" (or "What's New.pdf"). This is one of those features. See update 3.4, section IX, item 39 (In Game Elmer Assist) for its description. Note that there is also a separate document for the feature as well: "Elmer Assist Primer.doc" (also in .pdf).

Yeah but see I didn't explain well enough, I guess. The manual was written long ago, so if you come across something not in it, you should go right to the What's New. But anyway, thanks for pointing out the PO Assist, I'll have to mention it in the PO Tutorial.

Basically yes. I plan on a video for that stuff, after the next two on Combat and Turn Phases.

Hi,

I started looking at your first move in your "France 1944 D-Day" scenario (to get some insights into helping me with the game learning curve) and had a question regarding the tactic of choosing a limited number of units to attack the beach hexes when you could otherwise attack with more units.

You do allude to the fact that it would be wasteful to attack with more units because the Germans have a lot of supporting artillery but I was wondering if you could elaborate on this a little more. Especially in the context of your doing this in the Omaha beach sector when facing a much tougher force.

I can sort of understand that you want to avoid defensive fire from the supporting artillery but wouldn't you also want to maximize the amount of damage you could deal to the defending unit as well?

Is it that the optimal way to do this is to essentially attack in waves (a few units at a time over successive combat rounds) which also helps to minimize losses?

My sense is that this is the case but it is not intuitively obvious for a beginner.
