Status: offline 		I am currently playing Uncommon Valor. I love the depth and involment the player has in the game.

I would like to find a modern warfare game to play also. What is the best modern warfare strategy game on the market today? Is there one?

Status: offline 		Harpoon3 is a great, detailed modern naval warfare game. The series has been a favorite of mine for years, and "3" has keep me up till the wee hours many times. There's a lot to learn in it, but I think it's comparable to UV in it's learning curve and depth.

The scale goes from single ship- to- ship engagements to fleet battles with land-based air assets.

First you have Steel Panthers MBT a full game and a free download at Wargamer

Its DOS though, might as well pass it up if you are XP and nothing but XP, it wants 98 SE.

You can still buy Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat from a number of sites in its original retail format ie manual etc. I suggest here myself.

Sadly it too is a forget using XP wargame. But you can always install 98 in a secondary partition and then install your XP as the default on C eh doncha know (ya gotta make those sorts of choices sometimes).

Then there is another old title, People's General from the Panzer General line of games. Hey its a free game too, found here.

It might not be new, but that doesn't make it bad either. And it will run on XP fine.

For bigger scope of action, you can try Operational Art of War Century of Warfare. Its the complete thing in this release, WW2 and Modern and all points between.

WELCOME! According to some on this forum people like you don't exist! How did you find out about UV? How old are you?

And what was the last game before UV that you fell in love with?

You don't have to answer of course! :)

But to answer your question, in my opinion especially since you said "on the market today" I don't think there is one...

Closest as mentioned already would be Century of Warfare(OAOW2 specifically) or Harpoon-Series.... But with a game like UV around I just don't have any interest in those others anymore...in my opinion they no longer hold up... Waiting for something better myself.

Status: offline 		I started playing Axis and Allies and Sudden Strike for the PC about 2 years ago and quit playing A&A because of the bugs. I played out Sudden Strike. Then about a month ago I dug A&A out of the closet and downloaded a patch and it works great. I really got back in to A&A. I thought "there has got to be a more in depth war strategy game out there than A&A". So I started surfing the net and came across UV. I got just what I asked for - IN DEPTH. Right now I can't even imagine playing War In The Pacific...that map is HUGE!!

(I am 33) and as for the last game I fell in love with...I have the XBox version of Ghost Recon. That game is great. I was playing GR non-stop before UV came along.

I got to thinking about all the modern warfare that surrounds GR and of course what is going on currently in the world today. I was wondering if there was a strategy game that uses modern warfare. Maybe a non-fiction senario based on a Tom Clancey novel.

Status: offline 		Hey, welcome. Thanks for buying UV and I'm glad it got you hooked on the kind of deep wargames many of the folks here love. The previous suggestions are all good, particularly Steel Panthers 3/MBT and Tanks! (it's available on the net as well) for tactical combat (although these are DOS games and give a lot of folks compatibility problems on modern computer/OS combos).

There were some games based on Tom Clancy stuff way back when, but right now I'd say the best that is still available for modern wargaming is The Operational Art of War: Century of Warfare. It's basically land/air combat and covers the modern era pretty darn well at a variety of scales. It's one of my all time favorites, so I'm a bit biased, but I think you'll enjoy it. It's just getting a bit tough to find these days.

We are also developing a new game called Flashpoint: Germany which is based on some classic SimCan titles. NATO vs. Warsaw Pact at a company level. Check out the forum for that, I've seen it and it's looking great.

You could also look at HPS Sims' modern titles. I haven't tried them myself, but they've gotten some good reviews and might be of interest to you.

Just got mine the other day in the mail.

Sadly I had to buy it out of compatibility issues with the originals (no one can say I don't go the distance for wargaming thats for sure).

Operational Art of war Elite Edition Volume 1 will tell you to "et bent" if you try to go beyond 98SE it appears.
Operational Art of war Elite Edition Volume 2 which is the modern component, will play in XP though (but I wanted WW2 as well dang it hehe).

If you can find this (and not sold out) it might be less expensive.

But even there, at my favourite "can get anything source", they appear to have run out.

33, That's great. I personally think there are lots of there who just don't know about games like UV but would love it if they tried it! SPREAD the word!

A&A is a "stepping stone" for lots of people both with boardgames and computer ones. As for the bugs, dump A&A altogether in favor of Axis & Allies Iron Blitz Edition. Its far far far better (did I stress far?) and I still play it and/or Risk II when I need a quick game of something with relatively little thought. Both work great multiplayer as well as I can still beat even the Iron Blitz enhanced AI everytime (Another reason to dump the original, the AI is inexcusably bad).
