Can someone kindly take a look at this scenario and tell me what I'm doing wrong in having Big Top #9 refuel from Pitstop #1? Am I wrong in thinking that an F/A-18C can refuel from a KC-135R with no issue? Certainly Big Top tries to refuel but just follows the tanker to its demise without ever making the hookup.

I updated this scenario with the latest database before playing, Pitstop #1 is on a Support mission (though initially it was just loitering in a circle), Refuel/UNREP ROE is globally set to No with this aircraft specifically set to Yes, and I'm running build 573; but Big Top just crashes into the ocean. Sniper #1 (an F-14A) also can't refuel from Pitstop.

I thought perhaps Big Top couldn't fly slow enough with Pitstop flying at loiter speed, but manually setting a course for Pitstop & speed to 350 kts (the loiter speed for Big Top) didn't change anything.

If I swap out the KC-135R with a KC-10, Big Top is able to refuel just fine.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Open that particular KC-135 in the database viewer and see if under properties it has "wing drogue" or only boom refueling. If it's boom only then that might be the reason (F/A-18 and F-14 use the drogue system)

Thanks for the reply, Tomcat84. From what I can tell, there should be no incompatibility though I do not profess to be an expert: under Properties in the database the KC-135R has both a "centerline drogue" and "centerline boom"; the F/A-18C capable of "probe refueling". (The KC-10A has "boom refueling" and "wing drogue")

So is it a database error or do I have to do something to get the centerline drogue attached to the boom? (as I understand it to be, e.g. http://www.154wg.ang.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp?galleryID=7951 or http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/videos/air-force-kc-135-refuels-navy-fa-18s-syria-strikes/ )

A couple of things

In your save, it may be too late...not sure what led to it being too late, but tankers "loitering in a circle" bad, tanker tracks with 2 RPs bad.

I can't get anything to refuel from that tanker, but in edit mode, if I copy(C) Pitstop #1, and add it to the tanker mission. Then delete the problem tanker, everything refuels, Hornets and Tomcats, no problem.

note: I added third RP, and moved copied tanker close to the first RP placed and also moved that thirsty Hornet close to copied tanker.

My guess is that tanker got scrambled somehow leading up to your save, not a DB problem

team note: above is in 617 with DB418

Thanks for doing all of that, Rudd. Good to read it's totally a one-off issue. I'll have a better policy in the future, too.
