Hello,

I'm still new to the forums of course but reading through some threads I've heard some references to the future of Flashpoint Campaigns which I'd like clarifications on. I've heard references to great things coming in the next patch. But I've also heard about things coming in an 'expansion pack', as well as things in 'the next game'...I'm unsure if this all refers to the same thing with inaccurate terminology.

Obviously there is a patch that will come sooner or later - great.

1) I saw a post where one of the moderators said to expect something new 'in 2014 so be ready with your Christmas wishlist'... assuming this is not old information, what does this refer to? Where can I find information about it?

2) Are there currently any expansion packs, or new games in the series being planned - if so, what information is available on them?

3) I'm particularly interested in the inclusion of new nations to play as...I've heard people referencing inclusion of Polish (Sokol AA helicopters was given as an example of a unit), and Czechs. I presume East Germans would also be in there - I'd love to play as them. What is the status on these?

4) I'm also interested in the possibility of new scenarios/campaigns being added in the future. Any word on those?

5) Anything else I should know about for the immediate future of the series?

Thanks in advance, sorry for asking so many questions. I've just been hearing so many references to things that may or may not be coming so I wanted to be in the loop. I enjoy the current game enough to consider purchasing more of it, depending on what's being offered

The Future...crystal ball time...(items subject to change, fairly often too )

1. We are working on a 2.08 Red Storm patch to fix a few remaining bugs and to tweak a few parameters. Hopefully out before the 19th of December or it waits until the 2nd week of January with Matrix folks offline for the Holidays. This should include a new comprehensive What's New PDF covering 2.04 to 2.08 in one tidy document. Work will also be going on during the month to finish Mod Guide 4 and also to generate a Red Storm Battlefield Primer to help folks understand the platforms, systems, and tactics of the cold war battlespace. Assuming I'm not too bogged own in bug fixing and testing.

2. We are planning to release two Red Storm based DCL scenario/map packs in the first half of 2015. No firm dates and we are keeping a lid for the moment on the what those are until we get past the new year.

3. The big project is the next iteration of the game engine with a new game called Southern Storm (or 2.1 in the forums). Looking at late next year. This is the game with the new features and new nations. Right now we will be adding Canada, France, East Germany and Czechoslovakia to the data set. Plus a bunch of new maps, scenarios, and campaigns. The short list of new features (more info will be coming as the year rolls out next year) centers on multi-order waypoints and SOPs, multi-national sides in scenarios, improved engineering functions, scriptable weather, and a new UI (color and other features, still in the design stage). Once we get past the Red Storm DLC we will start to talk more about what 2.1 has and how it is going. Right now we are looking to put Red Storm to bed enough to enable us to move on to the new code.

That's kind of the short list of the future right now. we are also looking forward to a few days of down time over the holidays too to see and talk with family we haven't paid attention too for the past year.

Hope that covers what you are looking for.

Thanks for the information, it answered all of my questions. Southern Storm sounds like it'll be a great addition, though I hope you can find a way to sneak some of its unit control features into Red Storm's DLC.

I'm most looking forward to the nations being added. For some reason I've always enjoyed playing the underdogs and lesser known entities instead of the big boys.

Huzzah! This is the first I've heard of the plans for the Red Storm DLC packs. I know Southern Storm is a long ways off, and software development being what it is, it'll likely get pushed into 2016. For those not in the software industry, there's a saying that "the first 90% of the project takes 90% of the time, the last 10% takes the other 90%" :). So having some new scenarios or campaigns before then will be welcomed, and I'm happy to spend $$ on purchasing DLC if that's what makes business sense for OTS. Perhaps we can get a British campaign in one of the DLCs?

+1 to the idea for the Red Storm Battlefield Primer.

Chris

BTW - the Steven Zaloga book (Red Thrust) I mentioned in another thread is set during a Southern Storm-style operation across the Czech/German border. For anyone who wants a preview of the terrain and the units in that area, the fictional narrative will whet your appetite.

I seem to remember having read somewhere in the forums that you were thinking of doing the northern front after the south - with the Poles, Dutch and Belgians as new nations?

But is there a grand plan to eventually release further versions or even datapacks so that all European nations are covered (including the neutrals - I'm personally quite gutted the Austrians won't be in the new South Front game, don't know why but just love the Kurassier!) or even some Middle Eastern nations. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that this would allow some cracking scenarios to be made by us punters.

Obviously first things first but would be something to look forward to. And it is your own fault for making such a cracking gamethat we are all being so bleeding demanding!

Keep up the good work fellas.

For me infantry needs show strength in soldiers... you see the squad nato symbol BUT this is only a container for x soldiers, casualties are in nº of soldiers with a % to show the squad "firepower".

I think to that infantry units showing vehicles+infantry squads made infantry very weak because they lose to easy transport, or infantry is very well dug-in in perfect terrain or they are wipe out fast... maybe a good point could be made a "abstract" separation between infantry squads and vehicles, i think divide in 2 the infantry counter (separate physically infantry from vehicles) is not very usefull BUT made that in same hex vehicles stay in a more covered position using terrain is a good point, specially in urban where vehicles fall very fast.

In general infantry is weak even against regular arty attacks in good positions.

Ummm DLCs... with no new nations, only with scens/campaigns for me buy them is going to be a price question and interest in scens... maybe tematic DLCs by decade??? could be interesting a 50s 60s DLC.

I need ask this... you are going to have the 2 titles total separate OR is going to be possible join them in a single instalation??? i refer one game with all content because i think in have all OOBs in a single game.

Thanks.

The game will probably do more information in the end of game. You will more than likely never see that for in-game units.

Infantry combat will change somewhat. How that ends up being represented hasn't been worked out yet.

quote:

In general infantry is weak even against regular arty attacks in good positions.

Artillery killed more people in both WWI and WWII than any other source. With increased artillery lethality since WWII there is no reason to assume that will change.

You are not going to see artillery get weaker. It's gotten stronger while the infantry has the same basic defensive posture that it has had since it was invented. They can seek protection in the ground or in buildings.

Infantry used to be the Queen of Battle. Now tanks are. That change has gradually taken place over time from the end of WWII through the late 60's and into the mid 70's. Don't take my word for it read all the accounts of wars that have taken place since the late 60's. Tanks rule the battlefield. That is changing again with all the weapons designed to kill tanks that are small and man portable.

Infantry has been thinned out on the battlefield. A phenomenon known as the "empty battlefield". That was done because infantry is fragile. If you can see a target in modern warfare you can kill it. Large groups of infantry are easy to see and easy to inflict casualties on. So, the tactics evolved to smaller and smaller infantry units to be less visible.

This trend is not going to reverse. What will probably happen next is robot units. Where men used to be robots will take their place. Until that time men will hide and others will search for them with tremendous firepower to kill them. That includes artillery and all sorts of smart weaponry.

This is what you will see from FPC. Infantry is never going back to the glory days of WWI infantry charges by the millions. You will see infantry as realistically portrayed for their time periods as we possibly can. That may mean you, as the gamer, will have to learn to adjust to the way they have to be used and not necessarily how you have used them in the past. Modern combat puts infantry in vehicles and ties them, for the most part, to those vehicles. They are Mechanized or leg infantry units. If they are mechanized units then their vehicles are tied to them for the most part. They don't routinely leave their vehicles because to do so would leave them on foot in the middle of a mechanized war and basically condemn them to death. They wouldn't take that action in the real world and they won't take that action in FPC. We are looking at increasing the options of mechanized forces but whatever changes we make will still include both vehicles and their infantry.

Good Hunting.

Hexagon, we are currently planning two DLC "Battle packs". Timing is in the air right now with team members dealing with real life items that have made adjustments to our plans. As soon as things firm up we will have more info. I can say these are Red Storm based and will have new maps. Beyond that we are still working on details in house.

I suspect infantry is going to around a lot longer than tanks. And IIRC, infantry was the Queen of Battle vs tanks at Grozny in the 90s.

And that is the problem with tanks and APCs vs infantry. Lot harder to hide a tank or APC than an infantryman.

Just look at drones. Cheap, no risk and 4.3 million dollar M1 finished off from top hit. I imagine the tank will go the way of the battleship before infantry disappears and maybe not too far down the line in the future.

Time will tell.

Thanks for the reply.

Expect all is working fine now and the real life™ problems be smaller now.

PD: lets see what offer DLCs (because is discard the add of a new nation in DLCs no??? i refer for example center every DLC in a "missing" nation... one to cover East Germany and other to Cover Poland for example), until South front
