I may have asked this before and I know some folks say the game is quite playable now but with the amount of time and effort versus my job,life etc, I really do not want to be doing searches for workarounds etc.

Just a simple question really,

Can a noob player play the world map with basic settings as default without running into any workaround, bugs etc?

All I want is a stable game to start so I can then learn as I play solo. AI, I would like a basic AI player but can wait for that. Netplay = Not bothered but would be nice later on I guess.
Workarounds = just keeps putting me off even attempting to start to play or read the manuals.

Speaking of which, are the manuals still worth reading or have things changed much which now makes it a requirement to read other documents?

Not wanting to sound too harsh here guys, but I am a little bit disappointed with my purchase here and the fact I am still not confident to try the game because I read bugs bugs bugs. A complex game is obviously going to have bugs I know, but I would have thought a basic settings game game would have been stable by now?

Keep up the good work. I have WITW for now anyway.

While there are still bugs, one has to work to find them. Most things work properly. There are some supply issues, most of which have to do minor capitals. There is one annoying bug about not being able to sail into a port and pick up units and leave. Mostly, though, things are working.

To the best of my knowledge there are exactly three changes from the rules that are not in the manuals:

1) Reorganizing CPs costs 0.5 reorganization points per CP, multiplied by action type factor and foreign reorganization. (In RAW, you would first round up, then multiply.);

2) The CW can not send units to East Timor until after the CW reinforces Pacific US entry option is picked;

3) There is a large, but finite limit of to how far you can trace supply on a railroad. The only effect I have heard of this limitation is that a Western Allies HQ in Manchuria could not trace supply along the Trans-Siberian railroad and into Murmansk and from there sea supply to the CW. I am not sure that not being able to do that should be regarded as a feature, not a bug.

I do not think anyone can claim that these are major changes.

On further thought, there has been two changes to the interface that are not in the manual.

4) One may scroll using the WASD keys; WASD scrolls single hexes; shift-WASD scrolls most of the window

5) One can change which build points are being sent to fulfill a trade agreement. Change to the major power sending the agreement; go to default setting on production screen; click on the leftmost column of the production window.

This beta tester has recently played a play-by-email Barbarossa in the current public release against a worthy opponent (who wiped me from the map). And I did not encounter any bugs in that scenario. The only slight problem I encountered was that the supply lines of the optional division-sized units could not be seen in the form by pressing F8. The supply status was correct, and I seem to be the only beta tester who finds that functionality important - so this is incredibly minor.

There is an hyperlink improved combined set of manuals on its way in the next public beta (from one of the beta testers) - highly recommended.

Thanks, I will wait for next patch and then maybe put some time into learning it.

One last question, would it be better to play this game on a duel monitor e.g. can I set it up so half the forms stay on one side and the may on another?

I only have one monitor but apparently two monitors is much better and I think some people are using three. I'm pretty sure you can customise the displays as you wish.

Cheers, Neilster

You can use two monitors. However, always make sure the Main Form is at the top of one of the monitors and not in the exact upper left corner of a monitor.

I'm a total "newbie" and have become addicted to this game. I had ZERO experience with WiF prior to my purchase of MWiF back in February. I've never regretted my purchase one bit!

Personally, if you're only interested in solo play (and eventually play against the AI), as I am, then I would recommend that you go ahead and get the game and start learning it. One caution though, is that this game has a steep learning curve. But, on the other side you are rewarded with the richness WW-2 gaming experience that I've very experienced or could even imagine.

To see how far I've come since February, you may want to check out my global war AAR: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3677581

I have no doubt that the experienced WiF / MWiF could wipe the floor with me, but I'm having a blast!

In terms of play with two monitor, I'd highly recommend that. I play with the main map on one screen and all the other forms and maps (e.g., global, production, etc.) on the second. I couldn't imagine playing with two, but would if I had too.

Have to admit I find that somewhat dismaying. I am quite wedded to the lovely printed manuals.

What improvements are going to be contained in said new version?

No worries, I was not clear enough.
No new prints on its way. On top of the current pdf's, one of the beta testers combined all three in one pdf, and did a wonderfull job hyperlinking the references. This makes searching much easier.
