Anyone in the know care to answer how the last batch of testing went without crossing the NDA lines? :D

It's going well, but the current plan is not to release until at least Monday. If we don't have any problems in the next 2 days, it will just be a matter of "production time" getting the patch built and posted.

I had such grand plans to try out a new master strategy too, oh well, guess it will have to wait till next weekend :D

Thanks for risking our wrath and answering Joel ;)

I thought for sure it would be out this weekend because I'm going out of town this weekend. Games and patches that I'm waiting for always seem to get released when I have a test, big work project due, or am otherwise unavailable.

It turns out the record remains unbroken... I saw MOO3 in the stores tonight.

That came out Wed. :) I had the game pre-ordered and picked it up that day. I've been so busy, however, I have'nt had more then a hour all total to play with it. It's got a learning curve, more then I expected from a old vet like me.....

Yeah, I picked it up Wednesday, and have messed with it some. I had Thursday off, and still put in a morning of UV before starting up MOO3. I look at MOO3 as a warmup for WITP - There is just so d****d much to keep track of in that game.

We are a difficult bunch to deal with, don't you think? We're pressuring Joel, et al, for the Ultimate Patch, but if there's anything wrong you know we're gonna' be posting a flood of complaints. And we'll still be pushing for WiTP to be finished.

So I agree with Admiral DadMan: "Better right than early."

This comes from a guy who's anxious to resume play with the Final Patch (let alone begin play with WiTP), but in the meantime has to settle for trying to figure out Hearts of Iron, which looks like a real loser so far. Is HOI as much of a disaster as I'm beginning to suspect it is?

BTW, what's MOO3?

I will try to remain calm here:D I bought it and gave it to my brother within a few days...that says it all. Though I must say that my brother seems to be very satisfied with the latest patches and what they have done for gameplay and AI IQ (non-existent before). So please download them....

Cheers
Dan

HOI 1.03b (the latest patch) is now quite interesting. Moreover, the game is quite easy to mod so there are a lot of interesting mods now available (Nighty, ...)

And since Paradox really supports their games, I hope the 1.04 patch will fix the few serious flaws left (ie : CV) and still improve the AI.

MOO3 = Master of Orion 3

From what I hear, there is no learning curve...rather a learning cliff. That said, many have said once you spend some time with it and figure out what all those numbers mean, learn the awkward interface, the game really starts to shine.

Hmmm - I guess I'll just have to watch anime all weekend - thank goodness I just got a "CARE package" of R2 DVDs from CD Japan yesterday. ( Go "Overman King Gainer"! )

It's easy to tell where all the years working on MOO 3 went to, though. :) The backstory alone takes up about 20 pages in the manual!

Tried online play last night with a friend for a bit, was very smooth.

I also agree that HOI, like EU 2 (one of my all time favorite games) was rushed out too early and has been put into storage in my room until the 'final' patch comes out. Unlike UV, it's just not playable right now.

Just how silly has MOO become this version around?

Sim City 4 you are better off having never played any previous versions as the "unlearning" curve is absolutely horrible now as nothing you did in the previous 5 versions applies to the new version due to the radical alteration in all the formulas and the sub division of RCI (you sim folks will remember that) into R1-R2-R3-C1-C2-C3-IA-IM-ID. It's NUTS now! A nice looking game and all, but you are extremely advised to pick up the hint guide to speed up this "unlearning" process as you will loose in roughly 10 minutes everytime if you play like you did in previous versions.

Thank god for a nice simple game like UV! :D

Silly? It's a great game! Go read the reviews for it on GameFAQ. You are right that you have to 'unlearn' a little, but not as much as SimCity 4 (also a great game, but the book is NEEDED in this, as you said, to help your 'education'. :D )
