From time to time the in game screen stays black when alt-tabbing out of the game and later back into it. dxdiag is attached, it's a laptop with AMD graphics, if that's of any help.

The current black screen happened after executing a PBEM turn and before the upload message appears.

Usually black screen happens when you come back to the app when it is not responsive. You have powerful CPU so it shouldn't be very common to get busy app. Can you provide more details on how to replicate it? Do you play fullscreen?

Display Memory: 1792 MB
Dedicated Memory: 32 MB
Shared Memory: 1760 MB

with windows 8.1 pro with only 4gb of ram - shared ram = 2336mb free

depend on what other stuff is running etc with the game, the problem maybe resources?

try lowing the Shared Memory as this game doesn't need it, and windows 8.1 pro does, or it will page file a lot out to slower HDD etc

I put the laptop to sleep and after waking it up again the game was responsive again. Albeit it showed a message that I was about to abort the PBEM upload. Now it's back and the PBEM turn complete. Scenario is Battleground Italy.

I play fullscreen and it's about the third time I get the problem when alt tabbing out and back into the game. Note that during campaign turn resolution I also switch context and do some browsing, usually no problem. Though the map screen is often black when coming back to the WitW process, the report screen showing losses is there.

Overall memory might be the culprit, task manager showed the black screen WitW consuming 800+MB and 30-35% CPU usage. Thanks for your suggestion, though I don't really like the idea to tinker with the memory settings of Windows.

your not, your tinkering with the bios settings to alter the level of ram you share with your card. totally different tbh, as i would never touch windows settings either, but bios is another matter altogether, if you need any help just say what make and model your laptop is and i'll find out what bios it runs and talk you through it, it's not hard tbh
