Its a Pleasure Cruise to Northern Italy - 12/13/2014 5:58:25 PM

After seeing some Allies landing in Italy and taking Rome on turn 4 I wanted to see if I could do the same. Played solitaire version 1.00 the entire way through.

I tried to do the best I could for each side, Maintained garrison levels at full strength and the East Front Box over 3500+ every turn.

There are probably things that I could have done better.. but enjoy.

Status: offline 		Air Directives and moves done on German Turn Two

Most of Luftwaffe bombers etc have transferred to northern Italy. 1000 fighters defending the Reich.

Some action as the Amphibs sail to the invasion area ....

Found an interesting strategy in HQ assignment. Maybe the Germans think this allied force is coming to defect? The bug is fixed in latest version.

Pelton's cruise ship pic was much better than mine in the tester forum but I'll just put my version up.

I'm pretty sure in that pic some of the ladies by the pool might have been getting some sun all over, it is Europe after all.

Everyone who could get there got there.

One of the best things about this game is that you cant shove the whole army down one rail line. There is a cost per unit, and the more stuff you try to move through one area the more it costs until you cant move anything else. Plus you just can't dismount anywhere you want, if you don't get off the train at a depot it costs a lot more. Oh and don't forget all that rail isn't moving freight down to the depots at the front when its moving your shiny new toys.
In WitE you could move the entire Russian army down one rail line and dismount in the middle of nowhere as long as you had the total capacity. Not in this game.

There was a hiccup in the grand german plan to dominate the med with the Luftwaffe. Some very nasty things happen to Italian Airbases when they surrender even after they have been changed to Luftflotte 2 etc. Was very tedious to go back and reset them and cost some time ramping up the support needed on the airbases. Its been fixed now that Italy will not surrender in July in the latest version.

Apparently if you invade a port hex, when you capture the depot and your troops loot it, they loot your own freight as well that is supposed to be coming ashore from your amphib hq. Its probably the same supply officers that were trying to attach to the German HQ's ....

Luftwaffe has the beaches isolated and the Wehrmacht has come tumbling down from their alpine ski resorts to do battle.

Crunched one beach ... and where did the Big Red One go?

Even though it says retreated in the combat result, this division has been reformed from replacements, check the experience levels of the elements.

Status: offline 		After the Allied moves on turn 4.

Freight being flown in from Cagliari might make the difference. Allies having a hard time getting airbases up and running in Sardinia. Pretty much its just p38's and some p40n's that can cover the beaches. I attempted to base some spitfires and shortrange stuff right on the beach head, but the Luftwaffe smoked them. The Luftwaffe is doing a great job pounding on the ports and airfields on the beaches.

Well not really. Mountain units from the East Front Box are trickling in and 2 Fallschirmjaeger divisions are the bulk. 14th PzC is getting organized as well.

Status: offline 		Well the beaches are no longer isolated, but not much freight got in other than the airdrops. However the Allied units are going to fight much better I think.
Losses are pretty high for the allies, was this cruise even worth taking?

Seems to be a bug where 200% works better then 300% along the lines of the issue with WitE intercept setting of which morveal might have some idea about seeing he fixed code.

I made some adjustments to staging bases and swapped out some beat down airgroups for fresh ones.

Very strong control in the sea now.

Stack your Corp HQ, Army HQ, Group HQ and OKH HQ all withen 5 hexes so you get 4 rolls.

Little simple things one learns fighting on the Russian Front.

Also 150mm + Arty huge help.

Status: offline 		At the end of Allied turn 6, the Luftwaffe is still in control of the sea and the c47's cant keep up with the freight demands.
One of the cool things about the logistics system is that with airplanes you cant just fly in at the start of the turn and expect to fly. You have to get your support on the base, and get some fuel and ammo from freight there as well.
There are all kinds of fighters in Corsica and Sardinia but they don't have all of the gas and bullets they need to be fully effective. When I thought the airbases on the beach were going to be in supply I flew a bunch more shortrange aircraft in to help out, but they got pummeled again by the Luftwaffe. Trying to operate from damaged out of supply airfields is bad.
P51's are starting to come in they got the range to cover the beach easy.
Are they in time?

Luftwaffe casualties going up but they are still dominating the air over the beach. Aircraft carrier Sardinia just doesn't have enough airfields in the right spot to get all the allied fighters in rang.

The Beaches are isolated again and have no freight to work with.

No army here yet plus I didn't feel like I could spare the points to bring in Arty from east.
Probably could have looked around to find some on the west front, but didn't think about it at the time.

There was an air tweak in 1.02 I think that fixed that, but this one was done all under 1.00

Status: offline 		Well the Allies could not get control of the air over the beach yet. The constant German attacks have drained the beaches of freight. Air Transport cant keep up.
Nice supply levels in Sardinia and Corsica as the ports get repaired and the rails get fixed. Allied air power is ramping up as well, but it may be too late. (in fact im pretty sure it is too late)
