Hello,
I'm an archaeologist and a gamer, I have AJE (under italian FX distribution) and BOR and I like the gameplay very much.
But there's a matter that discourage me to playing these games: the Cisalpine Gaul have svere problems with geography. The region names and cities are all shifted to east: I noted this matter because of river and lake names and positions. So, these are beautiful games, with a great historical detalis (like no other games focused on ancient times). I've just reported the problem in ageod's AJE forum, with no significant results.
To correct these problems is not a complete game reworking (I made for me a little mod that correct the issue, in few minutes), but is a change that can be greatly apprecitaed by history-addicted player (and I suppose that quite all players of your games are of this kind...).
If you are interested in this matter I can give you some advice, in order to make a geographical correct map. I know that some imprecision are impossible to eliminate, also for gameplay issues, but these imprecision are very bad errors, and can be easily corrected...

I have made this to semplify the problem solving:
N.;Original Name;Correct Name
266;Octodurum;Darantasia
328;Vitricum;Salassi
334;Cestia;Vercellae
335;Vercellae;Aquae Statiellae
340;Oscela;Comum
341;Novaria;Mediolanum
342;Clastidium;Dertona
343;Mediolanum;Bergomum
345;Bergomum;Brixia
347;Verona;Vicetia
348;Mantua;Verona
349;Patavium;Hatria
350;Tarvisum;Patavium
402;Veragrii;Lepontii
404;Lepontii;Mesiates

Changing these you have to move also the position of some cities in every scenario, both BOR and AJE, to match the correct position:

Mediolanum moved in region n.341
Brixia moved in region n.345
Patavium moved in region n.350
Verona moved in region n.348

I will be pleased to give you more documentation if you need it.
Best Regards

Enrico Croce

Hi, Enrico

Thanks for your post and sorry if it was missed in the Ageod forum.

First of all let me tell you that although part of the AJE team I have no deep historical knowledge of city sites and names. That "department" is handled by Phil Thibaut and ElNino, maybe they can give you a more specific answer.

Nevertheless, let me tell you that there are some data that is almost hard-coded and impossible to change. The name ("alias") that is recognized by the engine for each region was defined very early and is set "in stone". A good example is region #318. It was named initially as "Durocorturum". Later in beta it was recognized as a mistake, the more appropriate spelling being "Durocortorum". So, now, although the region name is still "Durocorturum" in the region tooltip, the city name is "Durocortorum". Not ideal, for sure, but arguably better...But the engine only recognizes "Durocorturum", and all relevant scripts have to have this spelling to work properly.

Now imagine we moved Mediolanum city to region #341 as you suggest. Even if we had the resources to do that for all problematic regions and then make sure to avoid issues in all scenarios and scripted events (and unfortunately we don't), the end result would be: Region #341 name (alias) would still be "Novaria" and that would show in the tooltip, but would have a city named "Mediolanum". Conversely, region #343 name (alias) would remain "Mediolanum", because that is not changeable, but maybe would have a city named "Bergomum".... IMHO, that would be far worst than what we have now...

Anyhow, sorry if mistakes were made.

Thanks for your post, and merry Christmas

Thanks for your fast and very complete answer,
my post in Ageod forum was not missed but the discussion never came to a solution.

Your explanation is very exhaustive, now I've understand all the problem.
Maybe I'll try to work at a modding project, if possible...
But meanwhile I will play the game putting away my exagerated historical meticulousness...

Many Thanks and Merry Christmas
