I've been on the fence about buying this game for a few months now. My primary concern is the cleanness and the user-friendliness of the UI. I've been watching the videos and looking at screenshots, and I can't quite decide if the screen is too cluttered or not, or it is just that the images I've seen have tended to have more options switched on.

Also, are there lots of screens and clicking to sort out a strike (e.g. sorting out load-outs, altitudes etc) or is it all automated unless I choose to dig into the detail?

The UI is intuitive and once you get used to it, does its job well.

Also, if you have the means, you can drag windows to another monitor to unclutter things even more.

There are default loadouts and such, but you'll find your strikes and missions a lot less effective than if you go in and set the loadouts yourself. You can set up a scenario to pretty much run itself, but it will take work setting it up.

A bigger screen - especially multiple screens - helps but I play on a laptop just fine.

As do I. You have some control over the amount of clutter with settings.
