Fighters get all the glory but don't forget as the German player to actively manage your flak units. Letting flak do much of the heavy lifting lets you conserve your fighter strength and pilot quality for the long haul.

You must be playing someone who is newer, there just aren't enough APs to effectively move the big stuff around.

And when he learns to use pathing, flak only at the target area will matter.

They are very effective but the expansion of the AA arm really hurts the Germans with 2 massive upgrades to their flak regiments which can easily absorb tens of thousands.

So the flak shot down 320 and 516 planes, but who/what is 'operational' that killed 153 and 351 planes?

Crash at takeoff/landing, mechanical failure, damages beyond repair, training going wrong... The more you fly and flight, the more you'll have operational losses.

Operational losses are non-combat losses.

Especially watch your air group moral. This can cause huge operational losses if they fall too low.

This is against AI. I don't really move flak around much but I try to budget 2 AP's a turn once Axis reach 10 per turn to bring two flak units out of the pool.

I know a lot of players talk about flying around the flak. I think the Germans can make Holland hard to find any path through (big guns fire into adjacent hexes) and then Allies have to take a big detour to the North Sea which reduces mission range and increases interception opportunities which is fine with me also. Everything is a tradeoff.
