Hi

I recently bought War in the West and am really impressed so I have took the dive and gone for this game also.

I know this is a much older game but am I correct in thinking this is a solid and very detailed game (in some sense I believe people say this is more complex than the war in the west etc?

Anyway, I will no doubt be looking at vids etc on you tube but if anyone can point me to some of the best learning material locations, greatly appreciated.)

The game is not complex enough. There is no avgas for aircraft, aircraft losses during training are missing entirely, and you cannot interdict railroad supply movement. Otherwise, great game.

Welcome,

You are correct that it is very solid and very detailed.
It is very stable and almost bug free.

It is very complex. A lot under the hood.
This link will give you some idea. Scroll down and take a look.

I have not played War in the West but I do see on the
product page the complexity is listed as advanced.
War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition is listed as expert.

Goulash, I wouldn't say this game is necessarily more complex than WITW/WITE, but since the turns happen at a day interval instead of a week and there are many more units it leads to a more "overwhelming" (for lack of a better term) type of game. Coupled with the fact that the interface is more clunky than the newer games (WITW/WITE), due to the age of the game, and it is a much more massive undertaking. Concept wise I'd say it has similar complexities to WITW (WITW has more detailed air system and land system, but WITP obviously has much more detailed naval system). All three games are awesome and I recommend that everyone play each of them.

Says the guy who can't get past what point in the game? Come on Yaab we all know supply is avqas. We've had this discussion before, just deal with it.

As to goulash, welcome aboard. I would suggest you read some AAR's as well. They may raise more questions than answers at first but you will learn a lot and the pieces will fall together quickly.

Thanks for the welcome. I started it up and then realised that I may be best reading the Manuals for both games = (gulps at what I have bitten off to play).

I believe there is someone working on a updated manual to take into account the patch changes so am I best waiting for that to come out or will the official manual suffice for now.

Just realised this works at day intervals = WOW. Its gonna be a long game then lol.

Between my xmas purchases of War in the West, this game and Elite Dangerous, I think my 2015 is pretty much taken up.

Just one last question, how to players do multiplayer in a game that works on the day level? I take it some games are still on-going from release date?

The manual is still very pertinent.

Yup.

Not to my knowledge, but it will take a while.

Here's a good LP that finishes the game (in 1945). The guy played a turn a day.

It's pretty high level because it is meant for broad audiences but it's still a good read.

For all you new guys out there, you might be interested what is probably one of the greatest After Action Reports ever...

Small Ship, Big War - The Voyages of the Hibiki

This AAR is based on a game of the original WITP but it's close enough to WITP-AE.

The game ran from Jan 2007 to Sep 2009 (nearly three years) so that should give you an idea of how epic this game can be.

I hope you enjoy reading it, we all did....

I don't know if when the updated manual will be released so can't comment based on inside knowledge. That said the current manual has mush needed information for a start. All ship types, task forces types, what they can do, port limitations, where and how you can supply the main gun of a battleship, how you buy torpedos for your land based torpedo bombers, etc
