Some of you older die-hard computer wargamers without a doubt remember the old Norm Koger classic, "Tanks: Wargame Construction Set II." (Some of you might even go as far back as the first "Wargame Construction Set, over 13 years ago! ) Well, our good friend, "Tiger" Prado has made it possible to still play "Tanks." He has an excellent site with many published and some hitherto unpublished ones. If you want to relive the moment, visit Fabio's fine "Tanks" site. http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/tanks.htm Wild Bill

WOW! this is indeed still a classic! The innovative "alternate moving formations" mode in playing the AI is still unmatched in in tactical computer gaming circles!

Ain't it fun? Still...I've downloaded it from that site half a year ago and play it again. I had it in discettes when I bought first machine in -93 and was even then having long nights :D I have thought to look over some scen's in it and convert them partly to spwaw, but that is in near future due other things that keeps me busy now. :D And yes, it scrolls fast !! mosh

TANKS was my first computer wargame. Age of Rifles was the second. Any chance of signing Norm to do sequels to either. If so, I want to preorder immediately. troopie

I do indeed remember Tanks. Many nights were spent converting old Squad Leader, Panzer Leader, and other armored wargame scenarios to the computer! :D The ability to re-create battles from 1917 to the present was awesome. The combat simulation was good for it's day. I remember trying a battle from WWI, and suffered mounting frustration watching those s-l-o-w-w-w-w tanks move across no-man's land. Nice to know it hasn't gone to that great game cemetary.

Is your version 1.30 data base fixes or lessen the deadly indirect fire ? In the original data base, even 81mm mortar was able to take out tanks !!! I hope it can get some face lift and enhancement like a link random campaign feature. since it already has a random scenario generation ability, this could be possible. thanks for keep updating this old classic. :D

First computer wargames? Anyone remember Kampfgruppe? It was a very early DOS based game. I remember many, many hours of happy gaming with that one! The graphics were crude and the sound was a joke but ... it had a very complete OOB and a decnet AI (albeit things ran a bit slow in those days). I think I finally chucked it about a year ago. Also, I used to really enjoy the V for Victory series. As for Tanks, I probably still have three dozen disks lying around somewhere of scenarios for that great game. Mitch

Tested the link and it's working all right... Maybe you're using Netscape? I have not uncovered why Nescape sometimes does this, since it is a plain ordinary link - no Javascript, no CGI... Anyway, I have sent you a copy of the file ;) Fab

About the "deadly indirect fire" the present database doesn't fix it yet. I am just finishing a new one which incorporates some features that I "imported" from an old revised database also from Novastar - this one will deal with this "deadly indirect fire", as well as with the ranges and accuracy of different AT guns. It is just about to be released. Stay Tuned! :D About new features such as a linked random campaign, I am afraid it is beyond my limited capabilities...I whish MATRIX could do an overhaul on TANKS, just as they have done with War in Russia, but as much as I know they would love to do it, it would be very difficult to convince SSI to agree with that. Thank you for your support! :) Fab
