cannot find any RAF Bomber Command recon aircraft to reach Berlin. Spits and 'Stangs. Mosquitoes naval only. Got recon B17s in the Mediterranean. P38 maybe. will look to see what was used historically.

did they have no recon bomber versions of lancasters, etc?

"The PR Mk IF (PR Mk VI) was produced to fill a gap before the appearance of the PR Mk ID. It had two extra 30 gallon fuel tanks below the wings as well as an extra fuselage tank, giving it an endurance of four and a half hours, putting Berlin within range . The PR Mk VI started appearing in March 1940, seven months before the Mk IV."

sorting through naming confusion, moving all recon spits to the eastern beaches.

Strategic Recon was conducted by 106 PR Group based at RAF Benson which was part of Coastal Command.

"Spitfire 944" is a great, short film about an American pilot who flew a Spit over Berlin for photo recon missions. The film maker found a reel of film showing the pilot making a wheels-up landing, then tracked down the pilot and interviewed him recently.
