Isn´t Horn a clear hex? Bad mojo when the 4Es come to visit. No need for BBs.

Forts help. But without them, you'll get blasted clean off the island just with bombers. I've done it.

In my experience forts doesn´t help that much in clear hexes while they can make a tremendous difference in x2 and x3 terrain. At least that is my experience.

Horn Island is an atoll. not sure what's the defender multiplier for an atoll... somebody knows?

Horn has 6 forts. Seems to help so far. The 40 B17s that every day maul it aren't able to close the fields.

Anyway, the idea behind my strategy is not to hold forever, just for the longest possible time.

In my opinion, there are places the allies simply need to capture if they want to advance following a vector. Horn Island and Mereuake are two of those places for the NE Australian vector.
The more time he spends there, the better.

21-24 May, 1943

The allies conquer Sichlar (NW of Imphal)...we managed to get out of it with our 2nd Division just in time, retreating to Imphal.
Allied tanks are flanking the Dimampur line, moving on the yellow road that leads to Lashio. Can't stop them. need to evacuate.
Another failed attack at Paoshan (1-3)...but the base remains close and the supplies must be running out (very few flak lately). In 2 days we'll resume the attack.

We managed to get a 1-1 on the road from Kweyang to Chungking... this could be a very interesting situation. If I can close on Chungking....

Horn Island is daily bombed.
Port Moresby is conquered by an American Corp (41st Division there). Couldn't oppose it now that they control the whole air space over NG.
Finshtafen is bombed... soon we'll have the face another front here. His next target will surely be Lae.

KB is assembling at Darwin.

Getting ready to start to move to Wenchow.

Many many allied subs patrolling in the DEI. I'm doing my best trying to change the routes of my convoys and have decided to make ONLY huge convoys heavily escorted. Assembling an escorting force of 3 slow CVEs with 70 Kates on ASW

Well, depending upon how much you front loaded your plane research it might not be that bad.

May 25, 1943

Another failed attack south of Chungking. After the 1-1 of yesterday, today we achieved a tiny 1-2... :-(

Getting ready for the final attack on Paoshan.

Akyab is bombed by 4Es.

Mili is naval and air bombed.

Another sub lost south of PM... my subs are dieying like flies

The long waited 150K supplies convoy finally reached Northern Oz, feeding Darwin and Port Hedland.

The pressure on SWPAC and SOPAC is rising. Now the allied line goes from PM to Buna to Shortland... Rabaul is on the line of fire now.

KI-84a enters in production today. Producing 340 for the moment. Then, as soon as we fill the 4 sentais able to equip them, we'll shift some factories to the KI-84r RnD line and keep a production of 150 (no need to produce more than that given that only few sentais can be equipped).

KI-43 IV accelerated to 11/43

KI-61c will enter into production tomorrow.

Sonia KI-51b will arrive by the first of june 43. Feels strange to look forward the crappy KI-51b... but it's the only way to unlock a series of 1E bomber groups and convert them to FB and then to Fighters... the beauty of PDU OFF

what will your IJNAF fighter force look like once the KI84 and KI61 sentais are filled up, roughly in terms of volume per plane type ?

well the KI-84a will tip the balance back a bit from the Hellcats. He has some good stuff coming too but the KI-84a is rarely going to be outclassed plus 4 sentais will allow you to have them at a couple of hotspots. This game is so much better with PDU off. I'm really enjoying this

Yes, for sure the KI-84 will give me some good frames to contest the air superiority. Backed up by Tojos and by A6M5-Cs and A6M8s i should be able to give a good fight....but just in few places

Now i ordered 40 more Ha-45 engines... so i'llbe short for the next days, but, withour engine production, the encrease level should be of +8k per day

Quiet. More bombings at Akyab and Lae is bombed by some modern allied cruisers...as predicted.
Mili is bombed again...

Wenchow got the attention of 2 BBs while they move back to Japan for their june scheldued upgrades.

A general attack is ordered for tomorrow at Paoshan.I need a good dice and roll there cause the time is really run out at Dimampur...need to get out of there ASAP

KB is spotted at Darwin...... recon over Truk too, where the mini-KB is based...

Abbandoning the Marshalls... can't stay any longer. Need to rely on a static defence there and wait for the KB to be able to get back in the pacific...

Falling back to a new perimeter in Burma. As u can see the allies are marching fast towards Ledo, as predicted. Won't lose my precious units there. Ledo cannot ship out any fuel anymore anyway, so don't really care much at this point. I just need to hold on there untill Paoshan is taken...

That's not so bad. A little less than what I've got in my game (usually 9-12 for me), but I also have more of China (though no India)... and my current game tempo is much, much slower than yours. I think if you continue to be judicious, you may be alright.

Hi GJ, I believe you could (and should) already get out of Ledo, before you're encircled
it's not useful anymore to keep it, Paoshan is very close to India so it can be resupplied by the Allies from many AF, like Dacca e.g.
The AF of Paoshan doesn't need to be closed to prevent supplies being flown in, supplies can be also airdropped by transport planes. it's good to keep it closed anyway because in this way allies can't put fighters on CAP and rebuild forts.

To prevent supplies to be transported to Paoshan you can fly LRCAP with Ki-43 with fuel tanks from an AF at 3 hex distance max like Mytykina

Yup, i am already out of ledo. Only a shadow force is left there. The 15th Army is marching back towards Kalemyo.
LRCAP is over Paoshan since day 1 of the offensive. As far as i can tell no transports have moved there...not sure how he is supplying it Am not so sure that you can airdrop supplies on a base hex. On a non-base hex i know you can, but on a base hex i think you can only land on an operational AF...

May 26th... The attack at Paoshan fails... and fails also the attack south of Chungking...getting weaker every day.
The allies land at Lae...by now the have the complete supremacy in the area... don't have enough forces to prevent the breakthrough.

The first Chutai of 12 KI-84a is operative at Rangoon

MILI has fallen. The Marines finally attacked and the defenders, shelled daily for 30 days, couldn't oppose much of a resitance. Now the allies have a good base in range of the main bases in the Marshalls... We will bombed away easily from now on. Not much i can do.
Time to organize the second line of resistance. Ponape is ready. More supplies are coming.
Kusiae will be reinforced a bit more.

But now i need to secure the Mariannas in case he tries something bold. Three Divisions are already present and 2 more will be needed.

Really being unlucky with subs. Two more subs (a glenn equipped one and a RO) are nailed near Port Moresby for no gain at all.

Now that Lae is invaded, and with Buna and PM in his hands, the whole SOPAC/SWPAC is at risk of being destroyed. Now will see if my grand strategy is sound... entering into the "critical" phase of the war

I really get the old WITP vibe with your game again. I remember back then that even with PDU and hard optimizing by japanese players, Corsairs and to a lesser degree would eat you alive, even your Franks and Georges, so by mid-43 even good japanese players were really feeling the pressure, whereas in AE Corsairs or Hellcats aren't THAT scary, it's the Jugs who kill you, so later.

Good luck, That Paoshan situation is becoming stressful !

Shouldn't you clean up Wenchow at some point ? I mean right now it's of no use to him, but you wouldn't want to find yourself in a hurry to take it out when you could have done it without stress months or years before no ?

Absolutely. have 4 divisions already full prepped for it, with the 13th Army HQ and the 5th Fleet Command HQ. Am just waiting to finish with Paoshan before sending west my units

Yes, absolutely right!
Not to say how painfull is to be forced to produce and RnD every single type of airframe. With PDU OFF you really need to make hard choices about your production

in NW OZ not much is happening, with the allies that are fastly building the bases in the inner land in order to reach port Hedland. I think i may have a couple more months here before the storm will get over my bases of Port Hedland and Exmouth. By that time i need to be ready

Now that the KI-61c is arriving the whole RnD line should make sensitive progresses. The KI-61d is a good frame, with SR=2, decent speed (367mhp) and 2 F cannons, should arrive by september, while the KI-100-I may be accellerated a lot, getting there on the beginning of 1944.

In Semptember we'll also be able to field the first J2M sentai.

Ouch, sorry Micheal, didn't really think about that!

The Ki-61 is the early Tony line (which preceeds the KI-100 line which is the "late Tony")
The KI-51 is the dreaded Sonia (in two variants "a" and "b", the latter coming online in june 1943 after having been RnDed)
The J2M is the "Jack" line
N1K is the "George"
KI-84, the "Frank"
