I received this error message when I tried to install Germany at War Barbarossa 1941. Please resolve the following:

A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine.

It looks like the program doesn't like the new version. Huh? A month ago, I installed the demo and it ran without a problem. Could you help me?

Mike

Hello MikeyBikey,

first of all the usual questions: which OS do you use and are there any antivirus programs running ?

Regards,

I think that I fixed it. There was an error that wouldn't let me uninstall Germany at War demo. I think that was part of the problem. I manually deleted the game in the Matrix folder and ran CCleaner to clean the temp files and the registry. I rebooted. Then I installed the full game. I still got that error with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and a couple of other errors, which were non-specific. I ran the game and it worked. I ran it again this morning and saved a game, reloaded it and everything seems to be fine. Cross fingers.

I have purchased a number of Matrix games and may have had one problem in the past that was quickly resolved. The answer your question. I am running a fully up to date Windows 8.1 and my virus checker is Avast. Just for your information, I have never had to disable any anti-virus program to install a game. And the few times that I have had a problem, turning it off didn't seem to help. Though I understand that the anti-virus program can and does occasionally cause problems.

Thank you for your quick response. I am eager to play Germany at War, but first I have a Panzer Corps campaign to finish.

Sincerely,
Mike

I've got exactly the same problem Mike had

I'm using win xp 32 bit with Iobit Malware fighter v2.4

I'm trying to install the germany at war demo to try and getting the same Microsoft Visual C++ is a new version message he got.

I tried turning the Iobit off and running the menu - it made no difference

As soon as I press play on the menu it says it encountered a problem and has to close.

so you could install the game but the menu to launch it fails ?

Did you try to start it directly in the games folder ?

Hello brucemcl777,

currently we do not have a running XP system at hand, so we cannot check right now. We working on this. In the midterm it might be impossible to provide XP support as the system itself is not maintained properly and it will get harder to differ problems caused by our products from those caused by OS deficits.

Regards,

Help!! :)

I recently started playing this game after initial purchase when it came out. Other than crashing every 4-5 turns ok. Now when I click play nothing happen. I can't remember if this way before updating to 1.06 but either was it won't play.

I wanted to re-install but could find my orginal and didn't want to go thru the hassle of getting it thru help support. So I just purchased another copy since it was only 20 bucks. I have great patience- not :)

I installed that to my other hard drive since I recently got a separate SD drive. Both updated to 1.06 and neither one plays.
On the new install I did get that message "newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

I am running windows 7 on a high end CPU.

Been playing games since there was a computer (and before that) but not much good at the tech stuff so what do you need from me?

help help :)

Hi zz64,

first we would need some information to narrow down the possibilities.

1.Did you try to launch the game other than via the "play" button e.g. starting the .exe directly from the folder ?

2.Please check this: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3396404

We would need the game logs.

3.Please deliver more specs by using this: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3371923

Regards,

Thanks for the reply.

There was no apps folder in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Germany at War

I did submit a help desk ticket and sent the DxDiag

There is folder D:\Users\PeterM\Documents\Germany at War
Ger at war has only 3 folders- campaign, scenarios, multiplayer. All empty

If reinstalled the game and it then never started, it might be the game did not create any logs.

This is normal as this is the storage of the selfmade scenarios/campaigns.

You said problems only arose after you installed 1.06 ? Could you post the Dx Diag here ? While we support the help desk, we are not in permanent contact nor do we share all information per se.

I still would like to know if you tried starting the game from the folder with the Germany at War.exe, to exclude an error by the Matrix launch program.

Regards,

Hi Ron,
That's the first thing I did was go to folder and run exe file. No joy. I can't remember if this started after 1.06 or not.
Either way I bought a new game-installed- ran without patch and no start. Patched and still no start.
I uninstalled both copies of game (one on C drive other on D) although the game on my C drive did not show up in the windows uninstall so I had to delete the folder manually.

I reinstalled the lasted game I had bought. No joy. Each time on install tho I get the C++ message that I have a later version and game will not run.
I went to the C++ file and did a repair and it now says version 2008. So I'm lost on this stuff.
Dx file below
Thanks

From the Help Desk this got it to work

Delete the following folder.
C:\Users\YOUR_ACCOUNT_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Germany at War

I guess the roaming folder was the culprit?

thanks for your help

thanks for that information. We never came across this so far and its always good to now all the pitfalls.

Maybe the data in there was corrupt and caused this. Deleting it may have caused the game to recreate it correctly.

So you now can enjoy 1.06 in all it glory ? Great !
