Hi all,

The enhancements to the planner are great. I love the individual AC with off-axis set ups. I don't have time to post some really nice screen shots of some of the mission ingress.

I am attaching a 7Zip file with three saves of the same scenario at different time points.

Single mission created. Land Strike with 6 individual AC with Shrikes and CBUs. Escort mission 2 Prowlers.


Critical observations:

1) The last AC to complete its attack run does not RTB. It continues to circle around the targets until it runs out of fuel and crashes. I suspect it is b/c it still have Shrikes, but there are no valid radar targets. What determines when an AC will RTB if it still has weapons, but there are no valid targets?

2) The Prowlers assigned to be the escorts on the mission (using the escort tab, etc.) never launch. Even if you let all of the strike AC RTB (except the one that remains over the targets until expending all fuel). This may be because I made an error in setting up the escort - but I have checked it a number of times before each rerun of this mission and I cannot seem to identify my error, if I have indeed made one.

3) more often than not, the CBUs are released too far from the actual targets in the target list and either strike another target, or miss altogether. Some times they are right on target. maybe this is WAD?

I also noticed that using units with MALD or other decoy drones will not work. Not if set as strike package nor as ESCORT, they will just circle around and not do anything.

They work when manually Bol'd. AI logic hasn't been added yet but is on the list of things to do.

Snafu

1) Correct. Fuel or Winchester Logic. You could also select the aircraft and manually rtb.
2) The Prowlers need to be marked as escorts in the mission editor. In the mission editor just select them and press the escort button below. You'll see a [Escort] marker show up in the list with them. You can but really don't need two Prowlers. Make sure you set the escorts EMCON for OECM on (Escort settings button in the mission editor).
3) Dumb bombs are more precise from lower altitudes but please be sure to try and drop the max load on target etc.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the help and information.

I have the following requests and/or observations:

1) Understood.

2) I can't tell you how many times I overlooked the step to click on the "Mark as escorts" button. I was clicking onto the escorts tab and modifying the EMCON. I think that there needs to be a better way to guide the player through this process in a step-wise or visual feedback way. For instance, when you click on the escorts tab and IF you have not successfully designated any of the aircraft as escorts, then there should be no aircraft displayed in the box above OR the AC that are listed should be greyed out and only the AC that are marked as escorts should be displayed normally. This should also apply in reverse. If you are on the main strike planning tab, then any AC marked as escorts should be greyed out to visually reinforce what AC are assigned to each role in the strike. Or you could change the color of the text of the grouping of AC assigned to each role and match that color text on the tab. Now that I understand the flow better, I was able to make it all work successfully - but it was a frustrating bit of the learning curve.

3) I am attaching a screenshot below of one instance in one run through of the saved files I attached previously. You can see that it appears that the CBUs were targeted and dropped on the building - but the only targets defined in the target list of the mission are the 2 SAM sites and the Tall King radar.

All of this part of the strike mission is all hands-off for my part. I am letting the AI select the final target for the CBUS, select and match the correct alt and course and the release time. Is the expectation such that I should be more hands-on as the individual AC make it near the target?

Also, Below the picture I am attaching another save to a following post. In this one the Prowlers have both launched as the escorts. You mentioned that I should not need two - but as I am using multiple off axis attacks, shouldn't their be a jammer assigned to each general attack vector. For instance, in the save, the off axis attacks are generally split to a Northern set and a Southern set. In this case, I was expecting that 1 jammer would be assigned to each general set and then approach the targets from these general directions. However, I can see that this would require further advanced TOT planning to be included in the off-axis attacks and I think you have mentioned in the past that this is something that you would like to address at some future point. In the save file the jammers are flying as pair on a common axis.
