We are starting a Global War scenario, AllenK as Axis and Mayhemizer as Allies.

We are playing using Hot Seat. We send save files between turns and ask reactions using email and this AAR.

Few screenshots will follow about initial setup and optional rules. Those who want to see all details, please take a look at save file.

Save file is from the start, Germany has just declared war on Poland. With roll 5 US got 1 chit. US has now 3 chits Germany/Italy pool and 1 chit in Japan pool.

I made some stupid mistakes during setup, maybe next time it goes right. (It never goes...)

Germany set 15 coprs/army size units (including only 1 MECH) and most of Luftwaffe to east. Poland tries to buy some time and hopes for bad weather. Polish pilots are ready to flee to fight another day...

USSR is set up next to Rumanian border.

The idea of trying hot-seat is the phasing player 'drives' the game and inputs the decisions. This will require some degree of communication on results etc, which we will post on the AAR. We are trying this in hot-seat so players can't see the values of the opposing US entry markers or offensive markers in the Germany-USSR pact (unless they cheat and peak at the files when they aren't the phasing player as we need to fairly frequently send files so the other player can see the state of play but what is the point). This way we hope to recreate the uncertainty around USE and breaking the pact the game was designed for.

I suspect that you might run into some trouble using this method. It could be difficult to save the game just before US entry chits are drawn. If a US entry chit is rolled for after a Axis DOW I do not think you can save the game before the chit is actually picked.

But I like the idea and I hope it works splendidly.

I will eagerly follow this thread.

S/O 1939 Axis 1

A communique is just in from Berlin

"Last night, one of our posts along the Polish border was treacherously attacked by forces identified as being from Poland. Such a treacherous violation of our Fatherland deserves a measured and proportionate response. We have mobilised our armed forces, declared war and at this moment our glorious Wehrmacht are advancing across the border to show the world such acts of terrorism will not go unpunished."

Elsewhere, Japan aligns Siam. US entry roll of 5. Siamese CA and CL placed in Bangkok.

Japan and Italy Combined. Germany Land.

No port attacks.

A Nav is flown to the Baltic 3-box.

The Japanese load a Trans with the Tokyo Militia and send it to Tientsin. Gen Yamamoto joins the Militia on an Amph.

In the Med, an Italian Trans picks up the Supply unit in Eritrea from the Red Sea 0-box.

No strategic or carpet bombing.

3 ground-strikes are flown. A Ju-87 and Do-17 against Warsaw and a Ju-87 against Lodz.

The result at Lodz is below par.

It's an experiment. For set-up, where the game won't allow you to save mid-phase (scrap units form), the method is to send the file across to the other player at the point you were ready to hit the 'done' button. They then hit the button to complete the phase and play switches to their input. As Axis player, for USE, I think it will be a case of my trying to anticipate when one of my actions will trigger USE rolls and handing control over to Mayhemizer to do the action and trigger the results. Control can then be passed back once the chits have been allocated. If it goes wrong, the worst that can happen is that I get to see 1 or 2 values I shouldn't have or we can back up to the point where we needed to have saved, re-do and proceed as before. At the moment, this is the USE picture I see.

With Hot-seat, there is no option for manual die input so, you get what you get. Again, you could cheat and replay the phase over and over but what is the point?

Back to the action.

No Axis rail movements.

The Japanese Cav and Gen Terauchi move back to the capital of Manchuria. The Tokyo Militia move to take position in north China.

S/O 1939 Axis 1: Land movement

XXXV Inf over-runs Gdynia and Danzig. With rolls of 10 and 6 the CA and CP escape to Liverpool as the Axis decline to intercept.

In Poland, the German army advances and prepares for its first two land combats (shown).

No Italian movement.

The second would have needed a bad roll to fail but 10 is average.

As a follow-up to this comment, Orm was spot on about the difficulties in saving just before USE. In my first run-through, I hit the done button for each Axis power in the HQ re-organisation phase and it went straight to USE and would not save until this was completed. Fortunately, no chits were affected, so the pool didn't come up. I was able to go back to the auto-save for the start of the HQ-re-org phase and saved it just before hitting the final done button for Germany. I hope Mayhemizer is okay with this as next time around, the results could be different.

Even if you see US entry pools it is not a disaster. Specially this early in the game.

If that happens, I guess US has a leak in the white house...

An 8 and a 10 for search rolls. I thought German optics were best in the world. Guess the aircrews forgot to take the lens caps off! Looks like the RAF had a bit more than leaflets for its first missions.
